Raid On Entebbe

I have waited a long time for a PAL Region 2 copy of RAID ON ENTEBBE, and the wait was really not worth it! The film starts as soon as it is put in the player, and ends abruptly with the end-credits missing! As for the 24 chapters, they are spaced at 5-minute intervals and do not coincide with change of scene, etc. The sound level is far too high, compared with other DVDs, resulting in considerable distortion in some parts of the movie. Overall, a very disappointing edition of the film, best avoided. The NTSC Region 0 version is a better choice for UK viewers.

This is a brilliant film that shows the sheer professionalism of the IDF. Many of these past events that were crucial in the formation of the State of Israel are sadly overlooked by contemporary critics of Israel. The director has shown stark parallels between the treatment of the Jewish people during the Holocaust: people packed like sardines in the rear of the plane like the deathcamp cattletrucks and the German Terrorist shouting out Jewish names over the bullhorn. Yaphet Koto has little more than a cameo appearnace as Idi Amin but his portrayal accurately represents the psychosis and egomania of Amin. I strongly suggest ' The Last King of Scotland' if you want to see more of the story of Idi Amin and Uganda. Forrest Whittaker is amazing as Amin in that film.

Just one problem with this film is that the quality is very poor - it looks like it has been sourced from a bad VHS copy.

In my opinion the movie is good BUT the picture and sound quality
are very poor. On a scale from 1to10 I give it -0 purely because of the quality of the recording. If however the dvd had been produced properly I would of given this movie 8out of 10.
