Another cracking season from the masterminds behind the show. This series really dives into the action as the major crimes unit reform to take on the untouchable barksdale and his cronies for keeps. Cedric daniels is brilliant as the calm collected leader of the team, with lester and the usual gang up to their old tricks to bring an end to barksdale's reign.
Particular note to omar as the freelance 'hood' haunting the dealers and police alike, and some great performances from some of the young'uns who have all grown up (namely bodie).
Brilliant price and a worthy watch. The only downfall is that you will have no free time, watching episodes back to back as you get lost in the bloody streets of baltimore.

The Wire is quite simply one of the best tv shows ever created. In fact I would go as far to say that along with The Sopranos, it is THE best show ever made for tv.

Being a big fan of The Sopranos for many years I never thought I would find anything else that could match its brilliance. However, The Wire not only matches it but in my opinion probably surpasses it because of the consistency of how brilliant each season is.

If you haven't seen The Wire yet then you are missing out. Buy all 5 seasons on DVD and you won't regret it. I couldn't recommend it any more.

i wasnt overly impressed with seasons 1 and 2 (too slow, average storylines) but i cant think of any superlatives that can do season 3 justice.

a must buy

Season three of The Wire continues to prove that this is quite simply the best show on television, ever. The focus of the third season shifts back towards the Barksdale crime organisation, although now the politics of "the business" have become much more complicated. The show also continues to break new ground however, giving a true insight into neighbourhood policing as it properly introduces the Western division, under the command of Major "Bunny" Colvin. Also playing a huge role in the storyline is the backstabbing and wrangling of Baltimore City Hall. And of course everything is connected.

As usual with The Wire, the acting is second to none. Once more some of the new characters take centre stage, although never at the expense of the characters we have grown to know (and mostly love) over the previous two seasons. The beauty of the Wire is its complexity; it just draws you in and makes you want more. The story and characters constantly evolve, and the minute I finished this season I wanted to do two things - watch the entire season again (or perhaps the entire series!), and watch the next season as soon as possible.

Entertainment in any form gets no better. You must watch this show.

The already incredibly high standards set by The Wire in its first two seasons are continued here, as the show continues to follow the exploits of McNulty, Freamon, Bunk and the other cops of Baltimore in their efforts to bring down Avon Barksdale and Stringer Bell's drug gang, whilst also expanding its focus to include the local city government.

Superb characterisation, acting, writing and direction make this show one of the best things on television. Peppered with rough language and occasional bursts of even rougher violence, this season continues The Wire's trend of not just being a cop show, but an examination of the slow decline of an American city and the huge problems faced by those attempting to reverse it.

Every episode in this set is a gem. Buy it, watch it, watch it again (the series is deeply layered and reward multiple viewings; it also never condescends to it's audience and makes you work hard as a viewer and pay attention to follow the vast canvas of storylines being woven).

It's quite simply fantastic. Recommended to everyone with a brain, a TV set and a DVD player.
