I was lucky enough to see a preview of this last night at the NFT in London. Being a non-trendy 30-something male I wasn't sure if I was going to like it, as I thought its intended audience would be women and the more fashion conscious amongst us. I couldn't have got it more wrong. The documentary highlights the immense work that goes into producing Vogue magazine (in this instance the September 2007 issue).and focuses on its Editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour. The highlights? Pretty much everything. The prickly relationship between Wintour and Grace Coddington (Creative Director) is highly amusing and Andre Leon Talley (Editor-at-large) is so outrageously funny he should have his own TV show. Sienna Miller also appears as she is to be that months cover star. When she refuses to have a haircut or styled prior to the photo shoot it poses the creative team with a dilemma........
I wasn't sure if I was going to like this but I enjoyed it immensely. You do not have to be a follower of fashion to get this as the documentary focuses on the work that goes into producing the magazine, rather than on the industry itself. The scenes change rapidly which creates a fast paced piece of film and I also enjoyed the soundtrack very much.

Whilst studying fashion at college, i have been watching this during one of the lessons and it is completely one of the best things to watch whether you are into fashion or not! I'm buying it as soon as i get payed next!
The relationship between Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington is so interesting to watch and you get such a well built up background on the pair. The people around them are funny and driven and they themselves are fierce dominant women who fight for what they believe is right within the magazine.
For those who truelly would love to get into the fashion industry in any sense The September Issue is a must see, there is so much to learn from it and it can really give you an interesting outlook on the industry if you haven't had the chance to really see it first hand.
This is truelly a great watch and i could see it over and over again!
Love it!!!!
Not sure how much this really shows us of the fashion industry, however, what it does show is the power of American Vogue. The film is about the power this magazine has over the whole of the global fashion industry from high end couture to shops on the high street.
Vogue needs the creativity of people like the wonderful British ex model Grace Coddington, who to some will be a revelation,as will her ability to do a fashion story in photographs. She comes across as the real creative star of American Vogue.
Anna Wintour while not the warmest person in the world, comes across as grounded, but somehow you feel that she is apologising for doing what she does. However, the one thing you do understand from this is her supreme power of the fashion world.
Good value for money, was a great incite into the world of vogue and i enjoyed it! No real downfalls, especially considering the price, for 3.99 you cant go wrong
wether or not you are a follower of the fashion industry, i recommend you watch this just to see how much creative talent goes into such an iconic magazine. I found this documentary very interesting (especially as a reader of vogue) to watch the process of putting this particular isssue together and how long it actually took. It was also brilliant to watch the infamous Anna wintour at work.
