I found Dead Man's Chest to be a worthy sequel to The Curse of The Black Pearl. Granted, it does not have the brilliant Geoffrey Rush as Captain Barbossa until right at the very end, but an excellent performance by Bill Nighy as the octopus faced Davy Jones makes up for that. Johnny Depp puts in another brilliant performance as Jack Sparrow and Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Jack Davenport, Mackensie Crook and the guy who Mackensie's charecter's friend (his name escapes me at the moment) all provide excellent support.

All the trilogy are excellent.

Black Pearl = 5 stars (super skeletons)
Dead Mans Chest = 4 stars (sea monsters)
Worlds End = 5 stars (loads of pirates)

Great Characters, Clever Effects, Fast exciting plots, Comedy, Sword fights, Sea Monsters and a bottle of rum...

I hope this helps. Now go buy a boat and live the pirate life...

  Drop the Sub-Plots

Johnny Depp is still as entertaning as in the first movie, and the lines are just as good. Unfortunately so much time is spent cramming in every single character from the first movie, that you're left yawning while Orlando, his skeletal girlfriend, et al take up valuable screen time, only perking up when Johnny is on-screen.

  Absolute Must SEE!!

Im sure im not alone here when I say that this is one of the best sequels ever made, strong characters, excellent dialogue and some amazing effects make this blockbuster worth seeing again and again, yes other reviewers have stated its bad points, it is overly long and some subplots really are not required, but overall you wont watch this and not come out wanting to do it all over again!

  A Genorous 3 stars

Fantastic special effects don't make up for what is generally a confusing film.

A storyline that is never quite clear, sub plots (one lasting about 20 minutes) that have absolutely nothing to do with the main storyline, and nowhere near as much humour as the first film - make for this a poor sequel to an excellent first film.

The whole film is dragged out far too much, so as to leave enoug story for the thrid installment in the trilogy.

Your kids will probably love it, and in it's own right it's not a terrible film it's just let down because the first one was so good.

Worth a watch for the special effects and Johnny Depp alone (and Keira for the guys) but don't expect any oscar winning storylines or stright foward plots.

  Disappointing

A disappointing follow up to the first. If the cast were different and not the huge stars they are I doubt anyone would have liked this all too much. Maybe the third will make up for it.

Loved the first movie ? then you really should check this out, a word of warning though it is very long and Johnny Depp is hamming it up just a little bit too much, verging on the annoying at points, lots of action and adventure though

  Hugely underrated sequel...

On its cinematic release 'Dead Man's Chest' recieved a huge amount of negative reviews - reviews I felt that were greatly undeserved. Though not reaching the majestic grandeur and sheer brilliance of the first film (though which sequels ever truly feel as fresh and exciting as the original) 'Dead Man's Chest' still has much to recommend it. Top of the list has to be Johnny Depp on fine form as the inimitable Jack Sparrow. Though not on screen for as long as the original film every moment spent in his company shines with comic brilliance and humour aplenty. The special effects are fantastic - the towering behemoth that is the Kraken (however you might pronounce it!) is an action highlight whilst Davey Jones is a monumental achievemnet in CGI animation. Seamlessly blending Bill Nighy's fantastic performance with state-of-the-art CGI effects results in one of the best CGI characters for years. The action rattles along nicely, Keira Knightley continues to look as lovely as ever, the darker aspects of the plot (Davey Jones fantastically fishy crew) are much welcome, the script is full of humour (Pintel and Ragetti are an amusing double act) and the ending is sure to leave all fans salivating at the prospect of the third film. If 'World's End' can manage to match, or even surpass, the enjoyment factor present in this sequel then we will be looking at a very fine trilogy indeed. All hail Captain Jack Sparrow...
