Directed by Paul Verhoeven, Turkish Delight is perhaps one of the most fascinating inventive films to dare being released and undoubtedly the finest piece of Dutch cinema.
A truly novel story of young love with both passionate and horrific imagination. Turkish Delight not only explores the blissful side of a relationship, but the mystery behind explicit and taboo needs of human nature that will confidently relate to our unmentioned desires.
Set in the backdrop of Amsterdam and Alkmaar in the Netherlands, Erik Vonk (Rutger Hauer) an artist and ladies man meets the beautiful young Olga (Monique van de Ven). Their strong sexual attraction allows them to marry and explore life and each other, but life has other plans for them.
I would most certainly recommend this film to anyone who is tired of watching the same old happy endings and is not afraid to observe the actual 'unusual' norms that exist in society.
