Spooky goings on, creepy little girls with dolls, ghosts flashing before your eyes and sudden objects rolling into your path. This film has all the clichés of a classic Asian horror film, and sadly I've seen them all before done much better.
The characters are not particularly fascinating, they are rather 2D and therefore you don't care if they die. The whole plot of reincarnation and vengeful spirits is also dull and predictable.
The 'twist' is also a last ditch attempt at shocking the viewer, although by the point it comes your really not understanding why let alone how it happens. Or care for that matter.
It does nevertheless have some decent horror scenes in it, with the murder of children being well handled as I found it rather disturbing to watch. But overall I would stress that it spends allot of time building up towards a ultimately flabby and unsatisfactory ending.

As a fan of such films as Ringu, Ju-On, Dark Water etc. I'm always on the look out for more scares from Japan. I hadn't seen any reviews of the title but I bought it due to it's low price at the time. After watching it I can't believe the lack of attention it's had. I loved it! It has elements of of typical J-Horror, for example: girl with long black hair (remind you of anyone?), so anyone who loves the genre will should check this out.
Think 'The Shining' crossed with 'The Ring'.
Narrative 4/5 - great storyline with plenty of twists
Sound 5/5 - creepy stuff and plenty to make you jump!
Acting 4/5 - some OTT moments but genuine fear in the casts' performances really does the job
Scare Factor 5/5 - haunting moments with plenty of jumps along the way... why does the phone always ring and scare the hell outta me?!
Overall 5/5 - it's up there with Ringu in my books
