I first seen this film when i was about 6 years old and totally loved it. Bought it of play.com and watching it all these years later is no different for me. I still love the film and the powerful emotional effect the story has. The acting was pretty good but what i love most about this film is it shows how enemies can become freinds and that there is no need for war. The humans are at war with an alien race called the draks. but when a man ( denis quaid ) crash lands on a planet during a spaceship battle along with a drak ( Gosset.Jr) they both realise that in order to survive they must learn to rely on each other. I find it very moving indeed how they become closer over time, and eventually close freinds and there some sad emotional scenes which make it all the better. It really is a classic film im my view and others to.

Enemy Mine (1985) is a sci-fi racial drama starring Dennis Quaid and Louis Gossett Jr. This cult classic was directed by Wolfgang Petersen (Troy).

The plot revolves around soldier Willis Davidge (Quaid) who crash lands on a hostile planet. To survive he is forced to forge a friendship with an enemy alien (Gossett Jr). If they can put aside their differences they may just find a way to live on the dangerous planet.

Dennis Quaid does a decent job as the hero. He's suitably brave and charismatic and handles the action scenes well. The real star though is Louis Gossett Jr. Even under loads of makeup Gossett manages to give his character an emotional depth which keeps the movie compelling despite some dodgy dialogue.

Enemy Mine is primarily a sci-fi thriller but underneath all the rubber suits and special effects is a racial drama with some great acting. This is a bit of a cult classic.

I picked this film up for just a few pounds (new), as I remembered watching it about 15 years ago and enjoying it. I vividly remembered the pit-creatures that terrorise Quaid's and Gossett,Jr's characters throughout the film. I watched it as soon as it arrived and was stunned at how well this film has stood the test of time! The special effects are a little tired its true, but that does not hinder the films ability to tell a wonderful tale of two foes who must unite to survive on a new world together. The film is quite funny at times (intentionally) and, dare I say it, very emotional, the birth scene being quite upsetting!
This film is a must for Sci Fi fans and an absolute bargain at the cheap selling price. I would have awarded the film 5 stars had the effects held up a little better, but at least they were done properly and not with computers!!
