This is one of those films that you can watch again and again and enjoy the more you watch it. All the cast are fantastic, Julie Andrews, Robert Preston, James Garner, Lesley Ann Warren and even a great cameo from Graham Stark. The music is first class, I just can`t fault this film at all, or this dvd. The extras on this dvd are really good too, you get a tremendous and touching commentary by Julie Andrews and director husband Blake Edwards. You can really see in the commentary just how much they enjoyed watching it again and reliving the memories.
I have watched this film so many times and reckon that it stands as one of the all time great "modern" musicals along with the likes of Cabaret and Sweet Charity. Whilst V.V. doesn't perhaps have quite so many great songs as the latter two, the script and story line are better and the comedy more than makes up for this. Julie Andrews puts away her Maria von Trapp stereotype and is fantastic. Robert Preston is absolutely brilliant - one of the greats and deserves to be better known. Likewise James Garner shines. It's one of those films you want to watch again and again because every time you do so it makes you laugh and cheers you up.
