In 1883, the volcanic island of Krakatoa, situated in the Sundra strait in Indonesia, erupted, killing 36,000 people and unleashing a series of terrifying tsunamis. According to records it generated the loudest sound ever historically reported - the cataclysmic explosion was distinctly heard as far away as Perth in Australia (1900 miles).

This spectacular docu-drama, starring Olivia Williams uses eye witness accounts to tell the true story of one of the most destructive natural disasters in history

Over the past couple of years, the BBC have made a number of dramatic documentaries about natural disasters both historic and perceived. Most have all the hallmarks of a made for TV movie - cliched plot; throw-away characters; cheap special effects - but Krakatoa is very different. No, it doesn't have the high-end production values of a blockbusting disaster movie, but what it does have is a cast of rich, full characters, solid performances, perfect pacing and adequate effects fleshed out by some intelligent cinematography.

The Last Days doesn't just document a historic disaster; it tells an interesting and emotive story.

How this ever came about is mans mystery earth and its contents are to be discribed as one of the many wonders of this planet.
Watching movie documentries such as this one helps to explain what and how this planet has evolved and even now myself is still astounded to think mother nature still has control of our destiny`s...
Krakatora is story of what mother nature can produce and the horrors we still face and always will face....

Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars Dramatic, poignant and fascinating.

Once again the BBC have ploughed some money into this spectacular docu-film, with great results. Based on the writings and reports left from indiviuals who survived the eruption. Three cleverly woven stories with one outcome. Each story is punctuated with facts from a narrator delivering the science. This makes for a fascinating insight to the largest explosion in recorded history linking it with a highly dramatic storyline with some excellent performances from all concerned. Highly recommended.
