In a performance that Joel Siegel of ABC News called "a transformation," Will Smith plays boxing legend Muhammad Ali in a visually stunning epic from Academy Award-nominated director Michael Mann (The Insider). Beginning with Ali's ground-breaking boxing victories in the 1960s and 1970s, Ali explores the physical and psychological battles experienced by the athlete who would come to be known as "The Greatest." Facing a tumultuous romantic life, deeply held religious beliefs, and the pressures of ever-increasing fame, Muhammad Ali's quick-witted personality and strong friendships helped him "float like a butterfly and sting like a bee." In addition to Smith's acclaimed performance, Ali features a revealing portrait of the boxer's close friend, sportscaster Howard Cosell, played by Oscar nominee Jon Voight.

"Rumble boy Rumble" as so effortly put by the brilliant Will Smith as perhaps the greates sportsman ever: Muhammed Ali. This film mainly shows the most signifcant part over a decade of Cassius Clay's life from first winning the title, through to refusing to go to the Vietnam War & then regaining the title from the formidable George Forman. No wonder Will Smith was Oscar nominated for his part as he plays Ali very well. He must have been taking lessons from Stallone's Rocky with regards to been in shape for this film. Great Stuff.

And he didnt even win best actor for this? Travesty!
You watch interviews of Ali, and then you watch this film, and you realise how alike they actually are. His smug arrogant attitude is so well played you'd think your watching someone following ali himself with a camera.
With real fight scenes, you know how dedicated Smith was to making this perfect and i believe he succeeded in this in every way.

It's a crime Will Smith never got the best actor oscar for his pefectect performance of the great Ali. But then again the film also should have got best picture aswell. The film is a truly epic acount of the major events in the life of this outstanding boxer. Forget Rocky's melodrama. This film has as much to do with the history of the time, including civil rights and the vietnam war, as much as it has to do with the highs and lows of Ali's life. Most of his story you may already know, as it has been documented that many times, but the film has many suprising secrets up it's sleeve. As Ali fights his own personal demons aswell as the contenders in the ring.
This is a truly hypnotic and spellbinding film, with brilliant direction from Michael Mann, and an amazing support cast that includes John voight and Jamie Foxx. But most of all this is a celabration of a man whose wit and athletic genius, defiant rage and inner grace, that will last with him forever.
This film is a modern masterpiece and can stand toe to toe with Raging Bull as the best boxing films ever made.
Genius!
