Part ghost story, part psychological thriller, part heart-wrenching love story Creation is the story of Charles Darwin and the single most explosive idea in history. Darwin's great, still controversial, book The Origin of Species depicts nature as a battleground. In Creation the battleground is a man's heart.

Torn between his love for his deeply religious wife and his own growing belief in a world where God has no place, Darwin finds himself caught in a struggle between faith and reason, love and truth. This is not the grey-bearded old man that most people imagine when they think of Darwin.

Told in a collage of scenes from the past and present, laced with stories of exotic animals and the dark dreams of a troubled mind Creation is a film that will provoke, entertain and ultimately deeply move you.

I went to the cinema to see this expecting an interesting story about Darwin. It was a story but interesting it certainly was'nt. It was well acted and the sets, locations were excellent but I just didnt get it and from the amount of zzzz I heard in the cinema I certainly wasnt on my own!

This film not only opens the minds of viewers and allows them to look at the world through Darwin's eyes, it also illustrates real life and the history of Darwin as a father as well as a biologist. It could be percieved as quite controversial for those who are more religion-orientated, but it wasn't intended to be blasphemous. It's simply a film on an important character in history and his life.

This could have been dull as dishwater, but it is actually wonderful. Visually bold and deeply moving, it is a treat for both the eyes and the mind - and that's a very rare thing in modern cinema.

I love Charles Darwin and was blown away by this whole film especially how well Paul Bettany played such a complex character. The story is more about the emotional ordeals he went through whilst diciding weather to publish The Origin Of Species and spends more time on his family problems especially his eldest daughter, Annie, who died at childhood. Practically everyone knows about the story of evolution and how Darwin worked it out which is why, i think, the film is more based on private things during his time writing and theorising like the death of his daughter. It shows his Psychological and Physical troubles he went through trying to decide weather to show the world his theory which could have 'killed God'. The acting all through this film is wonderful. The relationship between Paul Bettany (Charles Darwin) and Jennifer Connelly (Emma Darwin) is brilliant as the two actors are married so they really bring out the love in these two characters.

Great Film. Very emotional, expect to cry in many places. Possibly not for everyone tastes based on the other reviews below but brilliantly acted, directed and written. A complete must see for any Darwin Fans. Five Stars.

Paul Bettany is fantastic in an enjoyable telling of the creation of Darwin's 'Origin of the Species'. The gentle plot pace & character development may distance some action film fans but seriously how many explosions could you fit into a film about a man writing a book?
