Sharpe's Regiment Sharpe and Sgt. Harper return to England to recruit new soldiers for the depleted ranks of the South Essex Battalion. When Sharpe is summoned to Court to meet the Prince of Wales, he discovers sleaze and corruption in the highest ranks of the British army. Sharpe reports his suspicions only to find himself and Harper the subject of an assassination attempt. Sharpe and Harper then face a dramatic race against time to prove the conspiracy, during which Sharpe encounters Sir Henry Simmerson's niece, Jane (Abigail Cruttenden), who he has admired for years.
