Yep, you heard right, first men IN the moon!

I collect Ray Harryhausen's work, and would say this is probably one of his better ones, see my other reviews for more information on that, but for me the sci-fi angle is always a bonus!

This is based on a H.G. Wells story and can be viewed as an escapist fantasy as in all the best Harryhausen movies, but is unusual in it's sci-fi setting and use of live action creatures as well as the animated stop motion ones you would expect of a classic Harryhausen movie, and it's not giving much away to tell you the moon in this movie is hollow and full of giant insects of varying intelligence, and when I watched this as a kid I loved it and SO wanted some anti gravity paint!

The extra's on this DVD are as light as you can get whilst still having some.

Even though this is not what most people would think of as classic Harryhausen and it is a bit silly, it's still one of his better fantasy films, even though it's not quite so magical, epic or well executed as some, I'd still recommend it as good escapist fun!
