This is a beautiful movie, everything about it is so subtle, and it's definitely character and plot driven, MUCH more psychological than we're used to in recent cinema, it's driven almost soley by the excellent performances of the cast.

The ending is a major twist although you may have long since guessed it, but it means you immediately want to watch it again, although, I must say, I'm not sure of it's shelf life beyond that.

Excellent and fascinating extras though, where you learn just how many special effects you didn't even notice!

 An Excellent Film

The film is set on the island of Jersey in 1945 after WWII. Majority of the Film was taken place in a mansion, surrounded by fog and sealing the family inside.

The plot is, the mother, Grace led a horrible life; her husband went to war and never returned. Also her children had an unexplainable disease, were they are allergic to sunlight. One day, three people turned up wanting to tell them something very important but instead they became servants. From there on everything goes from bad to worse. They hear noises, see people they shouldn't and cross into unknown terrority.

Who are the others? The others maybe the servants. They might be the people in the shadow of the house. It might even be the family. I think that the others are the family. Grace, Charles, Anne and Nicholas. The house is two worlds in one; the living and the dead.

The family consists of four people: Grace the mother, Charles the father and Anne and Nicholas the children. Grace, who was played by Nichol Kidman. Grace was a paranoid, over-protective parent who only worried about her children. She makes them follow every word in the bible. Nichol Kidman had done this effectively; also she had created tension by whispering. Nichol Kidman made this movie!

The acting overall was superb! The acting of the children, at such a young age was amazing. Anne is a brave girl who has a love-hate relationship with her mother. Nicholas is a shy and frightened boy who does what ever his sister does.

My first impression of the ending was that it was too predictable; well that was my first impression. The ending was fantastic! It built up the tension and atmosphere within the house. I loved the twist. Nobody could have asked for a better, more exciting ending; it was the icing on the cake!

Overall the film was fantastic, a must see! The reason why it was fantastic was because Nichol Kidman made it her own. Also in the film, it didn't use the stereotype of a ghost. Anne always said to Nicholas that ghosts wore white sheets and chains; she couldn't have been more wrong. The tension in the scenes was mind blowing and frightening.

I give this film 4.7 stars (I rounded it up to 5). The reason why I didn't give it the full five stars was because in the middle the acting of the servants became unconvincing and made the structure of the film too predictable.

Overall: 4.7 stars. A must see!

I love this film. It is just so good. I have watched it so many times now but have never got bored with it. I think Nicole Kidman is at her best in this film. The twist at the end is brilliant. Not really scary but keeps you interested from the start.

If i could more than 5 stars believe me I would!!

This has got to be the best horror film that I've seen to date i don't even know where to begin about a film this good the acting is out of this world the best performances coming from of course Kidman & Eccleston even though he doesn't get that much of a role the part that he does play in this film is outstanding! this film really does have it it scares you makes you believe that this sort of thing is real and keeps you on the edge of your seat all the way throughout! the only other thing I can think of saying to you now is don't even think twice about buying it just do it!

 Mind Blowing =]
