This film is pure genius. Yes, it may be slightly dated in the way it looks, but this film has so many laughs! The Zucker Brothers and Jim Abrahams have done themselves proud.
It sees Val Kilmer make his film debut as Nick Rivers, a famous American rock'n'roll singer. Not only does he give a brilliant performance, Val sings all of the vocals himself!
With a strong supporting cast behind him, Val Kilmer gives a shining performance as Nick Rivers.
The best thing about this film is the fact that you can watch it time and time again, and pick out little jokes that you maybe didn't notice before.
Yes the film may have a slightly controversial plot, but because this is an hilarious comedy, it really doesn't matter.
Every scene in this film is hilarious, and this film should definitely not be forgotten.
one of the original comedy classics

this film is amazing, a young val kilmer in a film that doesn't take anything including random script interventions too seriously, sure its old but i tell you what its alot funnier than a load of cgi crap, eg, someone had to attach a miniature leather flying cap on a pigeon at some point during the filming of this movie, its that detailed, its joke after joke but if you wanna laugh then watch this film. Classic!
This is a movie that in parts I love, and in others is too much of it's time to make sense to anyone now, but it has some stunning never bettered scenes (an entirely backwards shot masterpiece with non other than Peter Cushing in a cameo role) and some really brain jarring moments, and it's funny!
Unfortunately it seems like one of those cheap MP3 players that tries to be everything brilliantly, it parodies Elvis Movies, War Movies, Lost On An Island Movies, a little bit of everything, basically it was the Epic Movie of it's time, and though it does lots of it very well, as a film in it's own right it manages not to be anything terribly much.
Case in point: This is the only DVD commentary I have ever heard where the guys who made it don't want to watch it and spend the whole film wishing it was over, they're THAT embarrassed by it!
Also, almost totally filmed in England, yet presented as an all American movie, which is curious.
Heck, I like it, you might too, it's certainly on a par with a lot of the later Naked Gun or Airplane sequels and a lot of folks seem to like them!

A good bad movie.
