Kevin Smith again strikes gold in this Lesbian love story.
The tone in the film is much sweeter than with Clearks and Mallrats. As Ben Affleck falls for the wrong woman, wrong being that she is gay. The diologue is honest and to the point, but always rings true. Jay and Silent Bob make a quick cameo with some helpful advise for Affleck, but don't go thinking this is going to be a side splitting comedy. This is a more gentle and romantic film for Smith.
This is well worth buying, and should also be given a chance by the Smith loathers, as it is a very different film to his previouse cult classics.
Too intellectual for simpletons

Many people expected another set of adventures and silly jokes, whereas this is a clever twisting story, with deep witty dialogue. The story isn't everone's cup of tea, but it is typical Kevin Smith with the use of dialogue and some vulger one liners. If you are a film fan and able to diversify between genre's you will really enjoy this film, if on the other hand you just like simple toilet humour, give this one a miss.
powerful

this is Smiths love story, powerful performances by Ben Affleck, Jason Lee & Joey Lauren Adams. Crazy story, excellent acting, amazing dialogue - this film does touch my heart
Finally, a comedy that tells it like it feels.

Straying away from his usual brand of dick and fart jokes and 'Snootchie-Bootchies', director Kevin Smith goes for a more hard hitting, emotional feel to this movie, and it works. Telling the story of a Holden (Affleck) dealing with his feelings towards lesbian Alyssa (Adams) and his relationship with his best friend, Banky (Lee). We still have Kevin Smith's 'low-brow' humour but it is dealt with in a much more mature manner, to better tie in with the serious subjects the film tackles.
While this film may take a different route comedy wise, it remains within the confounds of the 'View-askewinverse' (with references to events mentioned in Mallrats and related characters). Jay and Silent Bob even pop up to offer some much needed advice (albeit in a cameo roll).
If you want to giggle for 2 hours while Jay and Silent Bob run around spouting dumb-ass catch-phrases (Snootchie Bootchies? Who da .... talks like that, that's ....... baby talk!) then buy the mallrats extended dvd. However if you want to enjoy a film that gives you your Kevin Smith-esq humour with a little something to get you thinking as well, then watch, nay buy, this film.

Firstly i must state that i feel the previous reviews for this film are very harsh however i do respect other peoples opinions. I think that this film not only shows the once again hilarious side of Smith but his capability to write a heart warming story aswell.
I know people prejudice this film as soon as they hear that its about a lesbian getting 'turned' so to speak. But this goes further than that and doesnt have the expected ending.
Just a warning that if people are expecting a Jay & Silent Bob filled film they will be dissapointed but any Smtih fans who somehow havent seen this yet must buy it.
worst kevin smith film

Ahh, good old chasing Amy. Now i must concede to having the odd giggle during this movie. However, most of my laughter is directed towards Ben Afflecks beard and its seemingly overwhelming ability to transform Lauren Lee's sexuality. But who knows? He is a handsome chappy after all but i'm sure if such a person existed in reality his hormones could be bottled and sold worldwide to all of those happy religious associations that keep those with sexual confusion on the path to righteousness! In conclusion, it's not Mr Smiths greatest moment, but if your a fan you'll be kept mildly entertained by the fact that 'Silent'-Bob offers his pearls of wisdom in a highly emotional cafe scene. Three letters remain to sum this up. Meh...

Kevin Smith's first stab at being more than a **** and fart gag fest. This works very well, and the performances are rich and delivered with character humanity.
Jason Lee steals the show as usual, with the best of the witty and crude dialogue, but it's a very mature effort from Smith, not to be missed, definately worth a watch, and something a bit different for the Smith fans that haven't seen it!

This has to be my favourite Kevin Smith film ever. It's a romantic comedy quite unlike any other. But I feel uneasy about calling it a 'rom-com'; yes, it's about love and yes it's a comedy but it's ultimately it an intelligent examination of love, desire and comic books. I like to think of it as Kevin Smith's 'Annie Hall'.
It really is a perfectly crafted piece of work. From the characters, the soundtrack and especially the dialog, which is IMO, the best Smith has ever presented. His off-kilter pop culture references here provide some of the greatest quotes in cinema history - a Star Wars debate that enlightens us about Vader's true 'Dark side' and a 'Jaws' parody that has me wetting myself with laughter every time I see it.
Like all Smith films, it has a dirty mouth and a big heart and it might not appeal to everyone. But check it out if you've not seen it, if you can connect with it then you'll find that it rewards you immensely.

not the greatest - basically about a man who likes a girl who likes girls ... this "so-ninetys" love story is pretty preditable - (as with mall rats) jason lee steals the show however, and he is easily the best thing about the movie!
