Chas, Richie and Margot are the children of Etheline and Royal Tenenbaum. From an early age the children were unveiled to be child prodigies. Chas a million dollar grossing real estate mogul, adopted daughter Margot a playwrite whom received a fifty thousand dollar grant whilst still in the ninth grade and Richie a junior champion tennis player, winning the US nationals for three consecutive years.

After a short prologued introduction to their former lives as child geniuses, we are almost immediately given a suprising insight into their modern lives as adults. Unexpectedly, the estranged family are bought back together, the reunion throwing up snippets of prominent events over previous years that lead us to discover what has happened to change this family that once seemed to have everything but now seem to have lost themselves as well as each other.

The strong and well known cast offer superb performances, especially from Luke Wilson who gives an attention grabbing portrayal of the confused and often alienated Richie. Director Wes Anderson has chosen his actors perfectly to fit the witty and off beat script and has managed to keep this film unique even though it features many of the same directoral styles that have become standard in his projects, examples being 90 degree over head shots which are very much apparent in this film along with scenes that are dialogue free and use the soundtrack, normally of well known punk anthems, in place of script.

I found The Royal Tenenbaums to be very enjoyable. It constantly kept my attention and left me feeling like I had experienced a whole spectrum of emotions. I would definately recommend this film to both those who are and are not previously familiar with Wes Anderson's work.
