I cannot comment to the factual accuracy of this movie. But as a movie which is based on a true life (with creativity added in?) it is very atmospheric and the acting is superb. Well worth the watch.
Amazing!!!

I have to admit that I dont really know anything about Albert Pierrepoint, except what I have seen in this film. I believe it to be a great film, and it shows us a great insight into what it must have felt for Pierrepoint to have gon from being a so called celebrity, to everyone calling him a murderer.
I watched this film as part of my drama coursework last week, and since then have persued to buy the film, and do my own research into Albert Pierrepoint, as his life seems to have been rather memorable.
Overall, I would (without a doubt) buy this film as it is a great film to watch, maybe not for the light hearted but I thoroughlly enjoyed it.
I loved it!

Before I start this review I will say, yes, the director used a little creative licence - this film is not factually correct - If you want the exact details of the life of Albert Pierrepoint then yes, read one of the several good books about him.
It is without a doubt one of Timothy Spall's best performances in many years - I'm sure a lot of us of late, are sick of him either playing depressing loosers, or totally hamming it up, in things such as the latest production of 'Oliver Twist' which is currently been aired in the UK.
Spall captures a very human side of Pierrepoint (one which is debatable actually existed in the man himself - but like I said, creative licence) and brings it out wonderfully on screen, which makes for some very moving moments. The supporting cast could not have been better - even Eddie Marsan, who I am not a huge fan of, brings his A game to this production.
If you want to be moved and entertained add this DVD to you're basket - even if you are not particularly interested in the subject matter, I guarantee you won't be let down.
Factualy awful

I really don't know what the writer / producer was trying to achieve with this. It is not a true representation of his life and just a collection of well known cases, interspersed with other less well understood cases, in no chronological order, leading to now where in particular.
The film infers was that he allowed the pressures of the job lead him to resign and this give totally the wrong view.
Don't buy it if you want to learn about his life, better off buying his book
A Debatable film

Without doubt a magnificent performance from Timothy Spall as Pierrepoint portraying a human and sensitive approach to what must have been the most difficult of tasks to perform. It also shows the inevitable pressure involved in the duties involved.
However i found it touched a little too much on the macarbe at times and would have prefered to have seen a little more of the social and political issues of the day.
This is a brilliant film!

This film shows that people who have the most horrible kinds of job can be kind & compassionate people,Timothy Spall really did a great job portraying Albert Pierrepoint .
I've watched it several times & lent it to my friends to watch, everybody says what a good film it is...very British!
It wasn't a very well known film but it's well worth watching...it has a little twist near the end but i won't spoil it...happy watching!!
