I am very sad to say that i was so disappointed with this box set...
great actors...great sets..great costumes..what should have been a brilliant series...just was'nt..
I felt it lacked polish...for my taste there was not enough graphic violence or sex..Bruno Heller should have stuck to creating the series and producing it...not writing the first few episodes because he just could'nt weave a good enough plot...and as for the directors of the first 5 to 6 episodes..poor at best..
A series should never take 7 to 8 episodes to start holding any interest and grab your attention..it should be immediate...
They should have had Spartacus back then when this series was made..then they would have had a benchmark to rise to...rent or borrow the box set..dont buy...

 Ruined by pornography.

I am in no way a prude, but this was completely ruined for me by the graphic sex ,no wonder there wasnt many viewers,i am afraid that i stopped watching after disc 3.

 Fantastic entertainment

I loved this series. Brilliantly made and acted and not strung out too long like some series are. Series 1 is 12 episodes and Series 2 is 10. The set has 11 disks in total and I was really pleasantly surprised at the packaging when I received them. Each series fits into one normal sized DVD case rather than the silly cardboard fold outs that get tatty and worn after a while.

 Amazing but Shortlived Drama Series

I'm so glad I randomly found this DVD Box Set!

I'd watched an episode or two when it aired on television and wished I could of seen more. The acting and scripting is brilliant and I wish the show had recieved more viewers and compliments than it did.

It's a shame that HBO cut funding for Season 3 because of a lack of viewers.

I urge anyone that wants to enjoy a good, well written drama to buy this... But be weary of the sex and blood violence (although there isn't as much of it as people claim).

 Underrated classic drama series

Unfairly condemned for its graphic sex and violence, this series is a wonderful example of how to mix plot, character and budget. Every member of the cast is superb in a great BBC/HBO collaboration which mixed the two best elements of modern television - American money and British talent - to great effect. The shifting focus from fictional characters such as Vorenus and Pullo to real life Romans such as Pompey, Caesar, Antony and Brutus works well to sustain the drama over the course of the two series, with Octavian's growth from an arrogant and cowardly boy to a ruthless and cold man - essentially the story of the whole series - brilliantly realised. And James Purefoy is just spellbinding as the corrupt, violent and yet very human Antony.
