 well made but...

I thought this film looked excellent.. the locations, direction and some of the acting was top notch. However, the lead actor (the gung ho bomb disposal sergeant) was a turn off for me, as he was very obnoxious and didn't behave the way a man in his position would. No way would his colleagues let him get away with being so reckless, which kind of dumbed down the movie for me.

Overall, worth a watch... despite being 20 minutes too long. I can't believe this won the Best Picture Oscar though...

 A Fantastically Tense War Movie

When Sergeant James takes over a highly trained bomb disposal team stationed in Iraq, he surprises his team with his reckless and dangerous methods. As the battle continues all around them the team attempt to curb their new leader before his actions have serious consequences for everyone.

With explosives everywhere and every civilian a potential enemy The Hurt Locker brilliantly portrays the intense nature of working and living in war torn territory. The movie is about far more than just men blowing things up however. As the movie unfolds we learn about the motivations of each of the men involved giving us a fascinating insight into their world.

With brilliant performances all round The Hurt Locker is one of the best war movies in a long time.

 INTENSE ACTION PACKED BRILLIANCE

Director Kathryn Bigelow delivers again with an amazing insight into a squad of 3 bomb disposal soldiers in Iraq. The film is extremely intense & the suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. And the start is brilliant by the way!!!!! This comes highly recommended.

 AMAZING

Are you watching the same film as me? It's real life, it's showing us what it's like to do that job on the frontline. The character doesn't HAVE to be likeable, do you think everybody in war is going to be happy and excited?! This film is a bargain at 5 pound, quality.

 Lacks tension

I found this film thoroughly disappointing. Years ago I remember seeing Ten Seconds to Hell about bomb disposal experts during the second world war. A tense drama as the bomb disposal experts went about diffusing German bombs. The Hurt Locker lacks this tension. OK it is Gung-Ho but the main character is unsympathetic and personally I began to not really care what happened to him. No in fact I was beginning to hope he would make a mistake just to put me out of my misery, instead I just fast forwarded the last 20 minutes of the film just to find out what happened at the end. This film is no Jarhead. It lacks humour and I was not impressed by the news style camera shots. Conclusion: the film does not live up to the hype.

Best war movie ever! deserved the awards!

Incredible movie, loads of tension, and adrenaline, the director has done an excellent job to create the atmosphere of modern war. The fact that the actors where new and unherd off, made the movie more realistic and believable, you can relate to the fear in the soldiers. Well worth a buy!!!

its just a good film, nothing more

This film sits in with the likes of Black Hawk down, its a good film with some punchy dialogue but in the end it is just average. It is well acted and well directed but it lacks the excitment of a good action film and the intensity of a good drama.

The film covers various scenarios where the Bomb Techs are required to attend, the film has no political views either way which elevates it above the something to say type of war movie.

The characters just aren't that likable and you find quite quickly that you really just don't care. The film has won many awards so I have based the overall score on the let down factor, The film just does not deliver the premis of the hype, not the film's fault but still disappointing none the less.

An OK Film - Not Great

When this film won all the Oscars, I expected it to be great film to watch. It was not a great film - it was not even a very good film. Okay it may be styled in a documentary format, but it certainly does not entertain you. It is watchable but that is all. Once you have watched this film you will never want to view it again. I would wait for it to come on the TV. 3 Stars ***
