Five friends go to a remote cabin in the woods. Bad things happen.

If you think you know this story, think again. From fan favourites Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard comes The Cabin In The Woods, a mind blowing horror film that turns the genre inside out.

Produced by Whedon and directed by Goddard from a script by both, the film stars Kristen Connolly, Chris Hemsworth, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz, Jesse Williams, Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford.

This has to be one of the craziest horror genre movies ever made, what starts out as your average slasher horror becomes a whole different movie altogether by the end, its a very original idea yes, game changer no, nobody will be doing this again unless its a prequel, its very, very far fetched by the very end and leaves tons of dangling questions that could not possibly be explained, but besides that just go in and have fun with it, its utter madness about 20mins towards the end when shear terror is unleashed! You certainly wont see whats coming. The cast is very good, there is some pretty funny humour too. A must see for any horror fan it totally crazy.

 shocking in a good way!

this film was AMAZING! it was shocking but in a good way, even though a few times you kind of guess whats going to happen the film will have you gripped and exceed your expectations. Im not usually a jumpy person but made me jump a few times! and the end WOW!

It's so busy trying to please fans, it forgets to be scary!

This film gathered dust on MGM's shelf for a while until they sorted out their finances. Drew Goddard and Joss Wheldon's fresh horror comedy managed to then get to see the light of day with riding the wake behind Wheldon's Avengers Assemble. This horror puzzle tips much of it's hand early in the game, so the uninitiated be warned. This is a self deconstucting horror movie and although hardly a innovation, as the ground has been trodden before and just as effectivly by wes Craven with Scream who for the most part got the balance right, that had postmodern posturing with enough geuine scares to remind us that Scream was a horror. But despite it's best efforts Cabin never achieve's the same trick quite as well. A good deal of the shocks fall flat and the constant shifting between tone dulls the efficiency as showing early on that it's a reality show drains some of the tension. Still, it's certainly smart and well directed, with a screenplay that will have every fanboy lapping up all the winks and nods to all the classic horrors it pays tribute to, you can tick off Evil Dead, Night Of The Living Dead, Hellraiser and even The Truman Show just to name a few, but in the final quarter the film does a handbreak turn and becomes a blood drenched Jumanji. Although not perfect Cabin In The Woods is still a hell of a lot of fun as it aims to please all the horror fanboys, it's just a shame they forgot to make it scary.

If you're a fan of Josh Whedon chances are you'll enjoy this film. It's far from perfect but it's unique spin on the horror genre certainly kept me entertained from start to finish.
