John Nada (Piper) is a struggling labourer who drifts into town and luckily scores a job at a construction site. Discovering a box of sunglasses, Nada swipes a pair and is shocked to find what he can see through them; billboards demand citizens 'Eat' or 'Sleep', TV shows spout orders at him and some people look rather less than human...

     CLASSIC CARPENTER

This much overlooked John Carpenter film is classic Carpenter from start to finish.
Carpenter takes a basic story and runs wild with it what if aliens invaded and managed to take over society without any of us noticing.
Roddy Piper plays the lead role very well with some excellent support from the great Keith David, This really is Carpenter doing what he does best and if you are a fan of his work you really need this classic in your collection.

THIS FORGOTTEN CARPENTER CLASSIC IS A RIOT!

Do you ever get that feeling that something is not right, you can't put your finger on it, but something is very wrong with the world.
So did Roddy Piper, until he put on the cool shades and he sees the world through different eyes.
It seems all the massive road side advertisment bill boards have a underlying message, one for Aliens, and the Aliens have intigrated with us, but only can be seen for what they are, by these magic glasses.
Carpenter directs this funny and very playful "B" movie. The ex wrestler is suprisingly good in the part of the reluctant hero as he helps join the resistance and fight these manipulative E.T's.
The film has some great ideas and features a brilliant bone crunching fight with Keith David.
The stand out seen has to be when he fight back with the ultimate line " I'm here to kick ass and chew gum"
The film is a great forgotten minor classic by Carpenter.
From the moment it starts to the suprising down beat ending.
If you have not seen this film before, I suggest you give it a go, as it might be slightly dated, but is a hell of alot of fun!

I'm have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass....

If you're in the right mood for it 'They Live' is an absolute riot. Roddy Piper decked out in special sunglasses that reveal the true nature of the world around him results in some cracking one liners, some bizarre skull faced aliens and quite possibly the most drawn out, hilarious OTT fist fight ever commited to celluloid. At this price I'd recommend the DVD for this fight alone but the film is a ridiculously enjoyable piece of fluff and the DVD comes with a cracking carpenter commentary. Certainly not Carpenter's best but a fine addition to his back-catalogue nonetheless.

i love it, seen it more times than i can remember

This film is an absolute classic, yes its a B movie but if you like B movies at all then in my opinion this has it all except for gore, and will be up there with your favorites without a doubt. Its creative, edgey, hilarious... one of the best street brawl scenes ever - it just goes on and on, and the script is 'full' of classic lines. I disagree that the film is a great idea but executed badly, I think its very cleverly made, they have kept the plot simple which gives the script and every scene its potency!! and as usual john carpenters music is apt... the only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because its not a masterpiece and there are films that are better in everyway but why should that take away from the pure cinamatic enjoyment!

     Carpenter Classic!

A brilliant yet forgetten carpenter classic, if your a fan of john carpenter films than this is an essential. the film is loaded with great scenes and quirky dialogue. Although slow in parts, overall, it is fantastic.
