  Moon (2009)

When I went to see Moon I had to travel to Glasgow to do it since it was on a very limited release in Scotland and all I can say is God only knows why because it is nothing short of brilliant.
If you are any sort of Sci-fi fan and are fed up with Hollywood's excuses for Sci-fi then you owe it to yourself to see this movie.
It stars Sam Rockwell in perfect form as the sole tenant of a mining station on the moon who has two weeks of his three year contract left and is looking forward to returning home to Earth to his wife and child when he starts to see things. (Kevin Spacey voices the AI called GERTY, his only companion.)
I'll not say anything of the plot here except to tell you that it's more or less a one man show and is one of the better written/directed/acted movies I have seen in years.
It had a very low budget yet looks just as good as any Hollywood film out there with lots of loving attention to detail in both the visual side and script and is very gritty in places, showing a more realistic tone than many "blockbusters".
It is a thoroughly thought provoking film and the first feature length directorial debut for Duncan Jones (formerly known as Zowie Bowie) who also wrote the story before handing it over to Nathan Parker for the script. For those of you who like useless information, one of the producers is Sting's wife, Trudie Styler.
It's a sin that this movie has been overlooked to make space for bigger budget movies since it surpasses just about all movies I have seen recently. I can't wait to get this DVD and watch it again.
There is one thing I would say though. I would warn against watching a trailer for it. Some of them spoil the plot a little. You have been warned!
My Score. 9/10

  A New Sci-Fi Classic...

Looking forward too the DVD release of this beautiful film. As a huge Sci-Fi fan, I was blown away by what was on the screen, considering what little money they had too play with, it was nice too see traditional movie effects being used so superbly again, and the soundtrack is gorgeous...

Well done Mr Jones, Mr Rockwell... And the rest of the crew!

  The Best Film of 2009

I'm actually finding it rather hard to find an eloquent way to get how i feel about this film. All you need to know is that the acting is brilliant, the plot is well driven truly gripping and the soundtrack will stick in your head for weeks. I would even go to say the best film i have seen this year.
