The Battle Of Algiers authentically recreates the life-and-death struggle that took place in Algiers from 1954 to 1957, when the Algerian National Liberation Front (FLN) began a guerrilla war against the French, using terrorism. The French sent paratroopers, which led to a regrettable catalogue of atrocities being committed by both sides.
Unique, Award-winning, enthralling entertainment, The Battle Of Algiers is even more relevant in today's global political climate than ever before.

Nowadays with so much talk of wars and so many modern movies on warfare being made still nothing can compare to the black and white grittiness of The Battle of Algiers.
Filmed in the style of a documentary the camera takes you deep into the heart of the action and actually makes you feel like you're there. The movie takes on the view points of both sides, the sides of the terrorists and the army who are affectively in control. Throughout the movie you'll be on the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen next, who is going to triumph in these incidents in such a large battle.
The movie sits on the fence showing the goods and bads of both parties and manages to show you what took place without taking a biased few point.
Overall The Battle of Algiers is truly brilliant movie. A classic in the World Cinema category and without a doubt one of the best War based movies ever made

This is one of the finest films ever made. If somebody reading this is dithering over whether to buy it, then do so. The film explores the nature of imperialism and terrorism. The terrible and remorseless logic of such conflicts is shown with an icy detachment that gives this film its unique quality.
