Harsh Times is the story of two unemployed friends, Jim (Christian Bale), a war veteran, and Mike (Freddy Rodriguez), a computer programmer. When Jim - recently rejected from the L.A.P.D. - persuades Mike to join him in search of excitement and adventure through the streets of South Central L.A., things take a turn toward disaster and the two unwittingly sow the seeds of their own destruction.

only watched it coz bale was in it.....he makes an average film a good one . if you really want to see what he can do check out 'the machinist' .....i quite enjoyed 'harsh times' bales character reminds me of someone , got it all going for him but keeps pressing the old self destruct button.

Although some of the scenes & the language may sometimes seem a bit too harsh, and perhaps over the top - it certainly adds to the nature of the main character played by Christian Bale, and in the end, you do understand just why he is the way that he is. Overall, a very well made, and touching film, that leaves you thinking about it, long after you finish watching!

what a film! had this recommended to me by a friend and was totally not expecting it to turn out to be soooo good!
no earth shattering plot or fx - just a great story and excellent performances all around - especially from the 2 principals - bale (this guy just gets better and better!) and rodriguez that immerse you in their world, leading to an incredibly intense finale.
