Red Cliff is a Chinese historical epic set in 208 AD and tells the story of the most famous Chinese battle of all time, The Battle of Red Cliff. A true David and Goliath story, Red Cliff is set at a time when China was divided into three warring states. To unite them together Prime Minister Cao Cao sent 800,000 soldiers to wipe out the South and West Kingdoms, whose combines army was a fraction of the size, but their resistance and courage against this larger army was to go down in history.

 SPECTACULAR ACTION EPIC

| | See all SNIPERELITE's reviews (2)

This is the ultimate film when it comes to story, acting, production. The battle scenes are the best ever seen on screen. The acting is full of emotional story telling. The production, sets, music, costumes, etc are epic in scale. The battle scenes will leave you breathless and draws you in so much that you can almost smell the fear and taste the blood. Never have i watched a movie that has gripped me so much. The director- john woo has filmed the most spectacular battle action epic movie ever, hollywood has done it for years with big historical movies, but the east china/japan movie industry does it bigger, better, and more spectacular. If you like asian cinema, then this movie will be your best ever buy. Make sure you buy the 2 disc version for the full epic story, enjoy!

I absolutely agree with the previous reviewer; I'm a real fan of all sorts of Asian movies not just especially the big pictures such as Hero, Crouching Tiger, but also films such as Audition & Ong Bak & how wonderful to see John Woo paying homage to his Asian roots in this stunning picture. Saw this at the cinema on the big screen & now will have to buy the discs to catch all the details I missed with so much going on. The attention to detail, the wonderful colours, the understandable story, the muscular action scenes all combined to mix up a faultless film but I can't understand why it seems to have slithered from view.
Come on all you action-film watchers, give this a try - I just know you won't be disappointed - I certainly wasn't.

The best telling of the three kingdoms period

This is the telling of the Three Kingdoms period in Chinese history ,the land is divided into three warring factions,Wei,WU and Shu,each of these want to unite the land, but each has a different idea how to do so.An epic of a movie( four hours,on spread over two disks) the only thing that is slightly annoying ,is the breiff time the subtitles appear for ,you have to keep pausing the film so as not to miss anything, but then you miss the glorious scenery !?
