Get ready for hijinks and heroics on the high seas as Academy Award winner Tommy Lee Jones and Oscar nominee Michael O'Keefe team up against blood-thirsty savages and scoundrels in this thrilling swashbuckler.
After a gang of merciless cutthroats attack a South Pacific island, would-be reverend Nathaniel "Nate" Williamson (O'Keefe) is left for dead and his beautiful fiancée (Jenny Seagrove) is kidnapped. But to rescue her, Nate's only hope is to forge an unlikely alliance with a notorious and unpredictable buccaneer named Bully Hayes (Jones). Packed with humor, romance and action from stem to stem, Nate and Hayes is a rousing, "see-worth" pirate adventure!

I first saw this film as a child when my dad recorded it off the TV... he thought I'd enjoy it as it's a fun pirate film, and so I did! Savage Islands isn't a masterpiece, it is simply great entertainment. Tommy Lee Jones is lively and seemed to enjoy his light-hearted role, though there are some nice dramatic scenes amongst the high-sea frolics and the moving, upbeat Trevor Jones soundtrack.
You may think that one notable scene is a rip-off of a similar situation from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom... however this was made a year earlier.
With stunning South Pacific scenery, laughs and plenty of action, Savage Islands is a solid example of a purely entertaining adventure movie - notably one that be enjoyed by children and adults alike.
