Withnail And I portrays the last throes of an eccentric friendship during the final days of the sixties. Withnail and I are two young would-be actors who wake up one morning to find only ninety days left in the decade.
Bound together by poverty and dreams of stardom, they share a flat of indescribable squalor and live on a diet of booze, pills and grass. The two friends decide to spend a soul-cleansing weekend in the country in a primitive cottage borrowed from Withnail's eccentric Uncle Monty.
From the very start things go wrong and their dreams of an idyllic retreat rapidly degenerate into an hilarious nightmare.

This is really good value and a worthy re-release of this popular film. I think some of the comments made below about the CD are a little bit silly. I mean, did you really expect the full soundtrack including Hendrix, The Beatles and King Curtis? Have you ever heard of 'contractual difficulties'? Their tracks are easily available elsewhere, but this is the only place (as far as I know), where you can get all the incidental music. For me Richard Griffiths steals the show here as the fabulously arch Uncle Monty...also I really like the Jaguar Mk II with one headlight as well! Buy this and enjoy a bit of idiosyncratic 'Best of British'.
i bought it for the soundtrack on holiday by mistake

Very funny, my favourite film. A masterclass of acting. A masterclass of how to produce a film and a shining example of small budget well managed film making. The film is the most quotable i know, it has everything you could want and a the coolest soundtrack ever fact!. The cd is rubbish i re bought this edition expecting the hendrix tracks etc but it is just the classical score. The guys in the film fly off each other and the laughs just keep comming. The film is a bench mark that people aspire to, it is impossible to highlight 1 stand out scene for me this is perfect and stands above everything that came after. The film is cool, london looks great and the whole thing drips class, buy it and a spare as you can never be without it, now i finished this i demand booze. The 2nd discs have got 3 good documentries and a retrospective.
Classic Cult Comedy!

This has got to be the ultimate package for this film. Ignore the person's comments about the soundtrack, as this is just what it suggests, the original, rare 'score' - not music highlights! If you are after Jimi Hendrix or any of the other artists in this film, you can buy them seperatley! The score from this film stays with you long after watching it. The 2nd disc of this DVD is a must for any fan as it has the documentry called 'postcards from penrith', which follows 2 fans revisiting the iconic places from the film, a very good extra to have. Also has a 'swear-a-thon', pretty self explained! The actual film is one of the finest british comedies, with a perfect cast throughout. You have to own this film!!
