Back in 2006 we had all been about to die a little inside due to the fact that the TV channels had not given us a new and fresh TV drama, but then came along Life on Mars. A show that truly redefined what a cop show was. The first series was superb and the storylines and cast were great, we all had the feeling that nothing could top it - until this! Series two of Life On Mars takes the bar slightly higher adding yet more mystery to the already incredible side story of the time travel/coma plot, of which the outcome, while not up to everyone's standards, was a fantastic twist and a sad but memorable ending to a fantastic show. Phillip Glenister (Gene Hunt) and John Simm (Sam Tyler) are back on top form here again and the way that these two remarkably different characters play off each other is brilliant. The stories themselves were a step up since series one and were filled with even more great villains and the one liners still come thick and fast. The Camberwick Green parody is particularly funny. It is easy to see that since the first series the production has been expanded on the show as there are more explosive storylines (literally) and there are more guest stars appearing throughout. Having now sat through all 16 hours of the show it is a shame to have seen such a great piece of television end, but its best to always leave your viewers wanting more than milk things to the end of the earth, which is why the ending to this is so brilliant but at the same time confusing as you can take what you want from it - was Sam mad, in a coma, or back in time?
