What does a scanner see?

A Scanner Darkly is set in suburban Orange County, California in a future where America has lost the war on drugs. When one reluctant undercover cop is ordered to start spying on his friends, he is launched on a paranoid journey into the absurd, where identities and loyalties are impossible to decode.

It is a cautionary tale of drug use based on the novel by Philip K. Dick and his own experiences. Like a graphic novel come to life, A Scanner Darkly uses live action photography overlaid with an advanced animation process (interpolated rotoscoping) to create a haunting, highly stylized vision of the future.

A Scanner Darkly (2006) - ****
I'm a huge Philip K. Dick fan and love his film adaptations, (Bladerunner in particular, Total Recall too) and this is no exception. A Scanner Darkly captures the essence of a Dick novel more than any other of his adaptations, largely through the amazing animation it employs. The storyline is difficult to follow for anyone not familiar with the book, but you won't mind. The look of the film is artful and there are stand out performances from Robert Downey Junior, Woddy Harrelson, Winona Ryder and Rory Cochrane. The only let down is a reliably wooden Keanu Reeves, who manages "What's going on?" very well, but as soon as the script requires any emotion he stumbles. A small error of casting but the film as a whole will leave you satisfied, if a bit confused.

I honestly have not watched this film but sat at my computer, I saw a brief moment on tv while it was muted and thought ah it's that Keanu reeves film so I turned the sound up as never seen it before.

The parts I saw were so interesting I wanted to watch the whole film but had already started on +1 I'm still looking at it wanting to watch the whole film, this is a very weird film but breath taking.
