Phillip K Dick is one of the most inventive, influential and prophetic science fiction writers of the 20th century, end of. The film has a great cast, (especially Robert Downey Juniors excellent, paranoid twitchy performance) and the rotoscope gives it a sufficiently unreal quality. Underrated by far.

I would porbably give this four and a half stars but play have made this impossible for me...thanks play. This film does look amazing visibly, the way it moves and feels is great. The characters are played very well also by the good cast, who better than keanu reeves to play such a mellow role.
This film also has a really clever storyline. You may have inklings as to what is happening or could possibly happen and when it does happen!!! u may be that guy/gal that says "i figured it out, im top" or you may be pleasantly surprised. either way its a great film and i highly recommend you buying it, especilly at this price.

First off-buy this film!
£2.99 is a great price.

When I was watching this film,I thought it was good and kept you thinking throughout....however,after watching it I thought- "Would I think this film is as good without the roto-scoping",and I would say the answer is no.

My personal opinion is that I don't like the way Robert Downey Jr plays his character, amd there are so many twists of perception in this film, they become slightly mundane.

But for £2.99 for a film which definately sparks debate is unmissable

Amazing, visually stunning film. Impressive performance by Mr. Reeves. Can't beleive it's being sold so cheaply! Definately worth the money.

Dude... this movie is a trip. You have to meta-meta-think about it to get it. Not only do you have to watch the movie, you have to watch yourself watching the movie, and then analyze that. When you Finish, you'll feel like you're on drugs. And then you'll be paranoid as hell. I'd call this more of an experience than a movie..

I only got to watch this recently and I was very impressed. The film's themes of government distrust, paranoia and drug addiction are well conveyed. The cast list is also very good - Keanu Reeves, Robert Downey Jr, Woody Harrelson and Winona Ryder play the circle of friends who become suspects in a battle against drug distribution. Reeves plays his role as undercover narc/drug addict incredibly well, and his descent into hell is all the more realised by the rotoscoping effect used in the film. I would say this is less sci fi more drama personally, and is a visual delight.

Customer rating: 3 out of 5 stars Narcotics, like Russian Roulette for your grip on reality.

Watching the DVD was the first time I'd seen this film, and foolishly, I watched the making of featurette first. I highly recommend you not do this too and a major plot-twist is revealed, which probably tempered my experience of the film.

Reeves is an undercover drugs cop trying to work his way up the food chain of drug users and dealers. Surrounded by a lose bunch of paranoid junkie friends, a girlfriend who won't 'put out' and a mission in jepordy as he gradually falls apart through his own adiction to Substance 'D' the drug of choice in near future America. Will he be able to find the source of this potent narcotic before his brain tears itself appart in pyschosis?

This a surreal, often confusing journey into drug addiction is an experience all the more amplified by the visual appearance. Having been conventionally filmed, then re-animated using Linklater's rotoscope process, much improved from his earlier Waking Life.

When this technique is done right, it is fully emmersive, however there are times when it looks like corners have been cut, with background elements sliding across screen rather than having been resized and rotated correctly in relation to the camera. This can distract your attention and looks shoddy. Which is a real shame as otherwise this could easilly be a 4-star film.

Philip K Dick's novels have become hugely popular for film makers to shoot down the years and that's a testament to the author's imagination and style. In this instance Dick used his first hand experience of drug abuse as inspiration.

Reeves plays an undercover narcotics cop attempting to infiltrate a gang of drug users as part of a war on a new and highly addictive drug.

The lines between fantasy and reality, however, soon become blurred for Reeves' character, as he finds it difficult to juggle his life as a Narc with his increasing paranoia and drug addiction.

The film was shot using a technique known as Rotoscoping which purposely gives the film a surreal, skewed and sinister style reflecting the experiences of the characters and is worth a watch for this alone.

Even though Keanu Reeves is as wooden as usual and the ending leaves you feeling a little short changed there are plenty of plus points including the performances of the supporting cast - Robert Downey Jr, Woody Harrelson and especially Rory Cochrane as a drug addled, paranoid mess.

Not bad but not quite a classic.

I watched this film with high hopes, and was not disappointed. My expectations were far surpassed!

The rotoscopy is very well done, very clever and adds to the film creating an ambience that suits the plot and subject matter perfectly.
The acting is superb, star performances from all involved, ably assisted by a well adapted script.
The plot is Philip K Dick, if you like Dick's writings you will like this, if you have never heard of him before it matters not, the film is outstanding in its own right.

I would recommend this to everyone as it appeals on many levels.
