Customer rating: 3 out of 5 stars Strange Film

I seen this film for cheap in a shop, and from reading the back it sounded really good. I also liked sixth sense, etc so expected to like this. However, i am very insure about it.
The plot is very strange and hard to follow. It doesn't really seem to make much sense. The graphics are also not great, and there isn't really any stunning acting in there. Many of the characters are quite boring. I also suspect it is one of those films that you may need to watch more than once to fully appreciate it.
On the plus side, it is an unusual film that is worth a watch for something different.
Overall, this is not what i expected, and i wasn't overlly impressed with it. However, i am likely to watch it again as i would like to understand it further.
My advice: get it cheap!

great film.. its a bedtime story and thats all. it has fantasy, monsters and superb acting especially by paul giiamatti. ok the film was slated but unless u give this film a chance from beggining to end you cant rate it. it was a change in direction for m.night shyamalan without the big twist everyone expects, but who cares.. this film is good. give it a chance.

I watched this film after others had said how bad it was and I didn't think it was a bad film by any means. Its a fairytale at the end of the day, and it doesn't pretend to be anything else. Watch this film for what it is and you might just be suprised, at least this film leaves you guessing until the end about what is going to happen, unlike the 6th Sense where the twist is mind numblingly obvious from the offset.

Signs is still Nights best work so far by a country mile though in my opinion.

A disappointing film that will not leave you thrilled. Being a fan of this directors work, I was expecting something much better. I recommend trying Signs or the Sixth Sense if you want a truly terrifying fim by the same director.

This film was refreshing to watch. If you are tired of watching action films or slasher films and are looking for something a bit different with imagination, this is a good choice for you.
This film is actually based on a bed-time story Shyamalan used to tell his children. He vowed to make the story a reality for them by having the power to turn it into a film.
This film left me on the edge of my seat at times, as the creatures were so realistic. The story follows a man who is needing a meaning in his life, and a soul who needs the help of many people. An enchanting film to watch. Shyamalans best film yet.

Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars A must have for Shyamalan fans.

Ok so its not the best film he has ever made but it is still a good film and very watchable. Shyamalan must have a wonderful imagination. He has the ability to raise your expectations of a plot's course only to dash where you thought it was going.
Im not so sure of his acting abilities though. I much prefer his short Hitchcockian 'where's waldo' appearances in past movies as I found his dead pan expressions and acting a little hammy in this.
Still, he's one of my favorite directors and I look forward to his next film - The Happening - coming out here in the UK soon.

This is Night's most left field film so far and "the Village" was pretty much out there. That most people won't get it or will just hate it makes the fact that i loved it all the sweeter.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars This isn't rubbish.

I didn't watch this film for a long while because everyone who had seen it said it was rubbish, but having watched and enjoyed his other films I just had to see it eventually. Now I am sorry I didn't watch it sooner because I didn't take my eyes off the screen. And it isn't rubbish. Yes it is based on a childrens story and no it doesn't have any major action in it. But it is beautifully written and filmed. The characters are interesting and believable. Bryce Dallas Howard as Story has an ethereal quality about her and the monsters are well done. This is an inspirational story about everyone having a purpose in life. It is a beautifully made, gentle and thoughtful film. Don't watch it if you want action or want to see the good guys going for the monster with anything more than garden rakes.

this is quite possibly one of the worst films to ever make it to the big screen. A ridiculous storyline which even the film's fantasy genre could not answer for. The more and more i watched this film, the more i began to think that shyamalan must have been trippin on acid whilst writing this farce. It moved from dissapiontment to condescending laughter by the end. i urge anyone to see this film, not for its quality but because its so bad... that makes it a spectacle in itself.
