Director Zack Synder did a solid job in bringing the hit graphic novel to the big screen. In doing so he also managed to create a unique look and feel to the film whilst remaining faithfull to the work of Frank Miller's comics.

Unlike other period epics such as Gladiator "300" is not grounded in realism. Instead tt embraces the fantastical mythic elements of the comics.

The only real failing of this movie is Gerard Butler. While I do greatly admire the dedication he took to physically transform himself into the hulking King he plays, he just doesn't convince me as someone worth rooting for. He generally shouts every line and one would think he'd be better cast as a pantomime villian or a sky one Gladiator.

Now if only they had gotten The Rock to play the part. He's an actor with the right physicallity and has more charisma and natural charm in an eyebrow then Butler has in his entire body.

Sadly the main role is a huge part of the film and Butler really drags it down to mediocrity.

This is just an amazing film, awesome story line, awesome effects. I can watch this film over and over again with out getting the slight bit tired of it. If you are in to any type of war film this is for you. Some scenes just make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. The main part of the movie shows 300 Spartan warriors annighilating vast amounts of the persian empire. But in twined in the fighting shows a more diplomatic side of King Leonidas's choices. Also The Second disc is really good if you want to find out more about the history of the spartans and the famous 300.

I couldn't wait to see this film as i had heard loads of great reviews and i was not dissappointed at all!!
There is a brilliant story that is intense, loads of action with amazing battles, the actors all have great roles especially Gerard Butler who plays King Leonidas!
Another key form is the way it was filmed - breathtaking scenes with amazing colouring throughout makes it really stand out from the rest!! This reminds me of The Lord of The Rings Trilogy which were also excellent and are still in my top ten films!
This being the 2dvd special it gives you plenty of extras and you will watch this more than once so it is a must in most collections for many reasons!! It is well up there in my top ten now for sure!

One of the most testosterone packed, visually stunning action flicks I've seen for a long time. Considering 98% of the scenes were shot on blue-screen, the landscape & scale is spectacular and the choreography is superb.

This is not based on fact - it's a *comic-book* film based on a *graphic novel* which I think a lot of critics lost sight of. This is more of an experiment, in the vein of Sin City - incredibly visually inventive, every shot packed with style. it raises the bar for the action genre in much the same way The Matrix did in '99.

Don't go and see this if you're expecting an intellectual lesson in Greek history. It's a completely different experience.

Do go and see this if you like over-the-top action, visual jiggery-pokery and slow motion. Oh and buff men.

Very dissapointing. I thought this film was gonna rock but it was just boring. The main dude says "This Is Spartan" so many times, and there's alot of slowmotion parts in this film. The storyline is pretty boring. The special effects look alot like a video game. Kind of a rip off the lord of the rings(the greatest trilogy ever). If you want to check it out rent it or borrow it off a friend. Sorry just didn't like this film.

The film of 2007. Absolutley stunning. A lot of shouting and blood but thats not always a bad thing. King Leonidas and his Spartans really kick ass!!!!
