I have watched this film a dozen times now. The alex rider books, along with Harry Potter, showed me that reading can be really fun and I was excited to see Stormbreaker being made into a film. A lot of people think that the actors in this film don't do the characters justice, however on that I disagree. Alex rider, the main character played by Alex Pettyfer, is a very good actor in his first real acting role, after Tom Browns School Days, and is clearly someone everyone can watch and think of as a role model. Girls will obviously find this guy extremely attractive. On the other hand, Alex rider 1-7 (the books) all happen over the duration of seveal months and Alex is 14 throughout. Of course this would mean that if any further films were made, Alex Pettyfer would be too old to carry on the role. It is unlikely that any more films will be made due to the bad reception of this film in America, where all the money is made. The Author of the books, and script writer of this film, Anthony Horowitz is very excited and proud of his books and passionate about working on future films so there is a slight possibility that there could be future releases. However, what let this film down (besides its lack of advertising) is the directing and scripting of this film. If you've seen it and read the books you'll know there are some big differences. One thing that happened in the film, which wasn't in the book, was Alex going to the train station and stepping into a photobooth (after following someone he saw at his Uncle's funeral) and then the photobooth send him to MI5's organisation. The simple mistake here is why the hell would MI5 have this as there access to work? Anyone could walk into the station to take a passport photo. Stupid. Another huge mistake is the target audience of this film. A film needs people of all ages to enjoy it and this film seems to only appeal to children. The characters (Jack Starbright for example) are just, once again, not right. The things they do.
Anyway, I won't go on anymore, but this film seems somewhat rushed and the director should have made better choices.
4 Stars anyway, just because the series is brilliant. READ THEM!
This is a film which didn't do aswell as I think it should have done...it's not perfect, its no Harry Potter but it is good for a couple of hours escapism. Hopefully the movie bigwigs dont write the series off too soon as a second film could be great - only suggestion is a bit more action could be needed!!
When I saw this i was so disaponted with it as the book was so much better. In the movie they have missed so much out from the book. If i didnt read the book i think that the film would of been a lot better.
I read the books long before the movie came out and was really pleased with the end result. Some things in the movie are different than the book, but I like the way it has been done. Worth it.
Stormbreaker can be enjoyed by the whole family. Bond Jr takes the stage with a good cast across the board and is well worth a watch.
