Clash Of The Titans (2010)

There comes a time when you start to wonder, will Hollywood ever get the message? Will they ever begin to realise that amazing special effects alone do not make a great movie? Or have they forever given up investing properly in good scriptwriters, throwing the entire budget at CGI engineers instead?

Clash of the Titans is 1 hour too short. It feels terribly rushed, the characters too shallow, the story is little more than one fight scene after another. We are given no chance to get to know the heroes let alone care less about their survival.

Yes, it's fun, but is disposable and forgettable. It lacks substance.

The tale of Clash of the Titans is an epic one, and it requires a suitable timescale to do it justice. This instead has been shoehorned into a 1hr 42min slot. From the outset, it has no patience with its own story and dares not give the viewer a moment of calm.

This could have been great, if treated with a little patience and given the epic treatment it deserved. As it stands, this remake is too self-contained and shuts off doors to viewer involvement from start to finish. You will neither care for the characters nor fear the bad guys.

The whole Greek Gods subject was pitifully glossed over, and needed a much more respectful treatment to give it credibility.

Hollywood must learn from The Dark Knight how to make good quality action movies with substance.

Until then, this kind of movie will be little more than an on-screen comic book.

The original 1981 movie is still a much loved fantasy, and the then ground breaking stop frame animation still stands up pretty well today, but the original movie was always hampered by a weak and wooden lead, and baggy story telling. This flashy rethink stream lines the story and turns it into a much leaner and meaner version, the cast is good with a excellent leading man role in the shape of Sam Worthington ( Rogue, Terminator Salvation, Avatar) But it's the pace of the movie that is hardly unflagging, leading to some brilliant battles with beast's of all shapes and sizes. The C.G.I effects are very good, and although more graphic in violence than the original this movie is still a family adventure. The open ending to the movie means if this rethink is a success we will no doubt get a few sequels. Seeing the movie in the cinema boast's the addition of 3D, but to be honest this extra did not really add much to the movie, as it was originally shot as a 2D release, but was held back… more »

In a way this is a good thing as when it is released on DVD in a few months you will know that the 2D format will not loose hardly any wow factor.
An excellent fantasy adventure!

Just as the new Star Wars prequels were savoured by a younger generation and left many die hard fans of the originals left feeling empty, this remake of a 1981 classic does the same to the legion of devoted fans of the original masterpiece from Ray Harryhausen. This film is a " re-imagining " of the original film and whilst the effects are bigger and bolder that doesnt by any means equate it with being better.
It loses the charm of the original film, instead here we have a heavily CGI'd production with no soul.
Ralph Fiennes is very good as Hades, as is Mads Mikkelssen as Draco , however Sam Worthington, whilst easy on the eye, thinks he is in 300 or Gladiator, stomping about in a kind of Russell Crowe masterclass.
No doubt a younger generation, unfamiliar with the original film will lap the action up, my 13 year old nephew was left unimpressed with the original, making point of its dated effects, which still charm me, but ultimatedly left him laughing in parts, he is… more »

I saw this in the cinema, and i truly was so excited to see what they had done with the material, and with the exception of one or two stand -out moments, the Scorpion attack was impressive as was the journey into the Underworld to seek out Medusa, the rest left me utterly disappointed.
The Medusa scene was again a fast and non stop action set-piece, whilst in the original it was played with a deadly slow pace in which Medusa was all shadows and heavy asthmatic breathing. The original scene truly was frightening for a child to watch, whilst in the remake it may as well had a rock song playing over the top if it!
I guess it's true that it's simply a case of each to his own.
