This is the original Nightamare on Elm Street remastered with DTS and Dolby Digital and with a Bonus Disc filled with special features. It's also worth it to buy it if you have the whole boxset of all the 7 films (including this one)

Classic Horror that introduced us to Freddy Kruger...

| | See all roberto009's reviews (91)

This is one of the most notable horror movies of, not only the 80's but all time introducing us to one of cinema's most frightning charecters...Freddy Kruger, the lunatic killer with knifes for fingers and invading peoples dreams to kill them.

Freddy is a horror icon and this is his first ever outing, its absolutly terrifying. By murdering people in their dreams, with no chance of escape this takes a new turn on the slasher movie genre, how can you escape the sadistic clutches of a killer when your not even awake?

Wes Craven does a brilliant job directing the young teenagers (including an early role for Jonny Depp) and his dream sequences all of which are surreal and creepy, you will constantly be on edge just waiting for Freedy to jump out. Heather Langenkamp is brilliant as the stalked teenager Nancy as she tries her very best to avoid Freddy's wrath.

This is the most enjoyable of the Nightmare on Elm street series because Freddy is actually scary in later installments he is portrayed as a witty killer with funny sharp one-liners, so watch the original when you actually feared Freddy, this is horror at its best.

  Great Horror

In my opinion it is the best 'horror' genre movie, let alone movie franchise. Freddy has it all- Wit, Humor, scare-factor. Its over all great. plus the way he kills is ingenius. Too bad Johnny Depp has to get turned into bloodypulp!

A masterpiece of both story and directing

A Nightmare on Elm Street is undoubtedly one of the best horror films of the 80's and one that still manages to deliver today what a lot of modern horror films can't, a sense of fear and evil. NOES was different to all the other 'slasher' movies that were out at that time as it's scares are delivered not only by what we do see, but what we don't see, playing on the audiences fear of the unknown, a trick that few films do well. The killer in question never really stays in the shot very long and his face is often concealed by darkness, prompting the audience to imagine what this figure really looks like.

Wes Craven works the camera effortlessly and builds tension as he does so. In scenes such as Nancy taking a bath, when Freddy's hand emerges from the water, and between Nancy's legs, it's a scene that is laced with suspense and fear of what could happen, again this is carefully crafted to make you FEEL uneasy.

It is through the dream sequences where the true sense of fear and terror is so well delivered. As anything can happen to you in a dream state you can't trust anything that you see or hear making watching it all the more terrifying. The fact that you don't know what to expect is all the more unsettling. Robert Englund, who plays the killer Freddy Kruger, delivers his lines to perfection and his presence is one of the most captivating and terrifying in horror history, and few characters have been this sadistic. Though this film was shot on a low budget it still manages to look as good as any of the big blockbuster films of that era.

What this film also does is educate you. This is what a good film of this genre should be able to accomplish, but few even get close. Though the series looses much of its original bite towards the end, this will always remain and essential horror experience

ARE YOU READY FOR FREDDY ?

| | See all SECTION8's reviews (1336)

This is the best of all the nightmare movies. This is when Freddy was scary ! People forget that Feddy was a Pedophile and child killer, that is before the parents found him and handed out there justice ! In later movies the Freddy became more a hero and forgot to be frightening. In this movie he is kept in the shadows and is never over exposed. After well over 20years this is still one of the best horror movies ever made and is still as frightening to this day. Just watch the scene when tina is woken from her sleep and goes to her back yard where Freddy is waiting. Also in the same scene look out for the very creepy bit where Freddy looks over a would be victim as she sleeps. That scene alone stopped me sleeping for days when I was a teenager ! The music alone is brilliant, it realy drips of warm muggy nights and impending doom. A Total Classic, and the best slasher movie ever. Please buy this now !

The first and the best of the series. This introduces us to a man named freddy who used to be a child killer who was burned and killed, he vowed revenge and he used the kid's fear to access there dreams to torture and kill the kids of the parents who killed him.
Freddy appeared 4 years after the friday the 13th series began and 6 after Halloween.
freddy isnt like the other ones he isnt mute he talks and that is more frightning.
if you have to only pick up one this is the one to go for.
With a new extras added and a crips digitally restored film and a nic DTS ex transfer this Disc is a must have to any horror or film fan.
