A visceral horror about a squad of British soldiers on a routine training exercise in the wilds of Scotland. Their greatest worry is missing the football until they stumble upon Captain Ryan - the sole survivor of a Special Operations team literally torn to pieces. Ryan refuses to reveal the secret of his mission even though whoever ate his men is keen for second helpings.

Luckily local girl Megan leads them to a deserted farmhouse deep in the forest, but when they realise that this is home to a pack of vicious werewolves it's apparent their nightmare has only just begun. Sean Pertwee stars as the sardonic sergeant, with Kevin McKidd as the heroic private and Liam Cunningham as the utterly twisted Ryan. With only each other to rely on, the battle between men and monsters is also a battle amongst themselves - in which loyalty, bravery and ingenuity is truly put to the test.

Dog Soldiers is one of the best feature debuts since Sam Raimi's Evil Dead. What director Neil Marshall ( The Descent, Doomsday) managers to do with a tiny budget is amazing. This film comes across as a great mix The Howling, Predator and Night Of The Living Dead, as the platoon of soldiers hide out in an old cottage, while the full moon rises and a pack of hungry Werewolves wait outside and claw at the windows and doors.
The cast are good and very likeable, although none of them will win anything for the acting. The Werewolves are used to good effect and kept in the shadows, and most of the time you only see a quick glimps, but this is all the better, as the actual costume is only a man on stilts with a skin tight suit, with some claw gloves and a wolfs head. But this all adds to the fun, of a film that has it's tongue fermly in it's cheek.
In all this makes for a great, gory, funny and thrilling nights entertainment. If there is anybody who has not seen this film yet, they are missing a treat!

A hilariously gritty peice of British film making

Ok...so the werewolf costumes could have been a little better...but this is not a big budget hollywood film.
Taken on it's merits this is a classic piece of British cinema.
The humour was perfect, the fight scenes were just gory enough without being too gratuitous and Sean Pertwee was magnificent as the tough old Company sergeant.
Perfect to watch with a cold beer at midnight and revel in the gritty squaddie humour.

This is a very cool british horror film with a great cast and a good story, there is some notable gore moments and plenty of carnage to satisfy and horror fan or lover of a good werewolf film! This movie is a total classic now and quite a british gem!! Its a good example of how much fun you can get from a low budget if you know what your doing!!!
