*Rango is a slightly delusional Pet Lizard that becomes stranded in the American desert. Rango stumbles across a small town, symbolic of something you would see in a classic western. The occupants are other desert animals. After drinking 'Cactus' juice in the local bar he uses his acting skills to reinvent himself as some kind of hero. His skills will be tested when the water supply runs dry.
*Rango has some stunning graphics, an okay story, some good voice overs and a good pace. Rango also opts for an 'Edgy' approach rather than the usual cliches we see in kids films. At times the characters can be a little gruesome!!
*One of the most noticeable aspects (for adults) is the amount of references to other films. Too many to mention but Rango is like Hunter (also played by Johny Depp!!) from Fear and Loathing. Maybe not an all out classic due to how much it 'Borrows' from other films but for a kids film it is very clever and deep!!
Just finished watching this and was severly dissapointed after being told that it was an excellent film.
I assumed it would be being a fan of most of Johhny Depps work but here his not particularly distinct voice is pretty much wasted as he's not really given anything particularly interesting to say.
On the other hand the animation is fantastic, no complaints there.
Eventually though it tires on you with the majority of the film being a dull gray and brown backdrop without much going on. Rango himself isn't that likeable a main character with predictable character developement. The other characters are alot more lifeless though with the exception of the fantastically animated Rattlesnake Jake.
The storyline plods on with slow pace for the majority of the film without really making me care about what might happen next.
Also for a film that advertises itself as an animated comedy there are very few funny moments. I give the animation a 9 but the presentation, storyline, characters and dialoque a 4 at most.
