top movie, refreshing and full of ideas and possibilities. Makes vampirism an affliction rather than trendy way of life. Highly recommended for thinking horror fans a la 'let the right one in' and not one for the buffy or vampire diaries brigade.
Very good film if not a little long.
Dont expect another oldboy. Or lady vengence. The only simliarities it has with these films is the dark humour.
Expect a good, if not slow at times, take on the vampire genre and you will enjoy.
Thats right,a vampire movie without fangs! This is so different from all others in this genre, and as i always say, "korean movies are the best" ,song kang ho is a great actor(those of you who are priveleged to have seen the good the bad and the weird,he is the weird)and i highly recommend this
Every scene throughout this film was obviously meticulously and painstakingly shot, giving the movie an overall beautiful texture with lustrous backdrops and great shots.
The length of the movie, around 2:13, might seem a bit long but there is not a single boring moment during the entirety of the film. The reason for this is because the movie itself is basically divided into three different sub-plots, the theme for the first is about faith, the 2nd is about guilt, and the third is about the paradox of the correlation of love, betrayal, and inevitability.
There are several gritty scenes of sex and gore, but this is most definitely NOT an action or thriller flick, this movie is very human, focusing on the irony of happiness.
This is a very dark and emotional film, which can be funny and heartbreaking at the same time. The story is told very personally through the main character, who acts his part extremely well. It doesn't get too caught up in special effects and focuses instead on characters and their interactions.
Park Chan-Wook has a way of making you feel like you're part of a surreal world in his films, where you see everything that goes on in the characters' heads - either directly through bizarre sequences or just from the expressions on their faces. Credit to the actors and they can just sit and stare for minutes at a time and you just know what they're thinking.
A really gripping and emotional story of a guy wrestling with his conscience as he goes through a very distrssing experience, but who also finds love... Of a sort.
