Coming from a harsh background, I know how hard it is to make some people open their eyes to the reality that abuse happens to children.
This film is absolutely fantastic for getting that message across.
It shows the pain in keeping the secrets, the horror of the walk back 'home', the fear when you know abuse is imminent, the humiliation during and after, and the dead-inside feeling afterwards. It portrays brilliantly the moment you finally shout and scream what has happened and then immediately try to take that back, and the smile you can't hide when you're free and strong in yourself.
It doesn't particularly throw it in your face, though. It catches you, it holds you in, but you're there because you desperately want to know what's going to happen. It really shows you what some people go through, how strong people are.
And, to be fair, that you really don't have problems THAT big.
