I had never heard of this film before then i was looking through film releases for 2009 and read a review for this film and decided to buy it has it sounded really interesting.
The film stars the always superb Dennis Quaid has a detective who since the death of his wife 3 years ago has thrown himself further and further into his work and is never home for his 2 lonely sons.
After a gruesome discovery on a frozen lake at the start of the film Quaid is thrust into a dark world where 4 people will die at the hands of 4 different killers working together to bring about the rise of the 4 Horsemen of the apocalypse as written about in the bible.
This is a superb thriller that will have the on the edge of your seat the entire time, It's not to gruesome like some horror films have been of late, And this film has a superb twist ending that you will not see coming, Excellent film that is well worth watching.
Reading the reviews written about this film I wasn't expecting too much and I didn't get it either, however I wouldn't say this film is all that bad, the storyline is decent although not presented in the most lavish style most likely due to a low budget. The film isn't the best out there, but it's not the worst either, I would give it a watch if there's nothing else on.
Saw this randomly the other night, and I was hooked from the start... really enjoyed the middle... and then came the climax. Or, more to be precise, anti-climax. A real let down and I honstly felt that I'd had my time wasted.
While this film has been done very well (mostly), using dennis Quaid as the busy police father; setting up the plot in a way decent for a film of this genre; there are many issues with it.
The discovery on the ice early on is never explained at all, nor the horsemens' motives dealt with well, and the end leaves massive issues and inconsistancies in the plot. The storyline seems shot apart by all the things that have been shoved in without subtlety or skill.
At the same time most of the plot twists seem simple or unnessecary and very predicatable.
For a horror film, it has failed; for a thriller, it isn't immense but is still worth a see. It won't scare, but it will disgust.
