I guess this is a 'marmite' film. Bought cheap- Previous reviews meant it could go either way, but for me I found it to be an exceptional film.
The film quality is understandably low, poorly lit & at times blurry. The acting from some characters is solid, and from others lacking. The film felt overly long in the final half hour. But... it's only in the final moments that the loose ends tie that you realise the wait has been worth it as the emotional depth surpasses anything to come out of Hollywood.
Sound is an area which has received subtle but effective attention and adds to the atmosphere greatly, especially the continuous sounds of distant ordinance.
The set pieces are outstanding considering the budget and although may be flawed in places, deliver an impact which makes you question what you would do yourself in the same predicament.
Take it as you see it. It's a cheap zombie flick with a deep emotional core. It is unsettling and uncomfortable to watch at times but more through the actions of humans rather than the zombies themselves.
It isn't slick, but it is well observed & poignant.
Try it. Don't try it. Your choice.
a truly awesome film with some amazing make up, a must see for any zombie fans, empire dont have a clue.
This is one of those films which has a premise so simple you wonder why it hasn't been done before. Colin gives the audience the chance to witness a zombie take-over from the point of view of one the eponymous zombie, Colin.
Viewers should ignore the £45 budget as the film can hold it's ground against all the current crop of horror films. Director Marc Price has achieves amazing sound design, with a cacophony of sounds throughout the film. It is a masterclass in sound design.
There is a frenetic style to any action sequence with a Paul Greengrass style of shooting utilising a handheld camera, this is especially prevalent during the human vs zombie street battle. There are also the more traditional dolly and steady shots used as well.
The film is a clever horror in that whilst gory, it also has a great story and never goes for cheap shocks or scares! You find yourself empathising with Colin.
It is well worth a look, especially for horror fans.
I saw a special screening of this in Manchester in July. Really enjoyed it!
I saw a very early screening of this film at the Abertoir Horror festival almost a year ago. I'm really pleased that it's received so much attention as it's a great little film that has a really emotional heart - rare for a horror film. Highly recommend checking it out!
