This was first on about 2 or 3 years ao on a 'samurai night' on channel 4. At first, the idea of the film put me off; but watching this story played out in a very authentic and dramatic 19th century Japanese backdrop, I can safely say this is one of the best samurai films available. If you like these, you should try Zaitoichi, and The twighlight samurai. They are also exceptional films.
