Peckinpah, ravaged by booze and drugs, still managed to produce this light hearted movie based upon CW McCall's hit single. He successfully parodies his earlier hard hitting work such as The Wild Bunch by transplanting his very wild west to the present day and replacing cowboys and outlaws with truck drivers.
Old Peckinpah cronies like Kristofferson, Borgnine, and MacGraw back up "Bloody Sam" with engaging performances, but it is really the 18 wheelers and the balletic trademark editing style that steal the show. The slow motion fights; all crashing tables and chairs, are delightful nods to his far bloodier gunfights that caused him so much controversy in the past.
Convoy also helped to contribute to the late 70s and early 80s craze for "good ol boys" as heroes after they had such a drubbing in movies like Deliverance. In the 90s that would change again to a deep rooted fear of such characters as they made weird villains in neo-noir films such as Red Rock West and U-Turn. I wonder what Rubber Duck would make of that?
An amazing Classic

This film reminds me of growing up in the 70,s and 80,s very much like Other American road movies"normally starring Burt reynolds,"Freewheeling Good time films,"where eveybody seemed laid back and cool"We had Mike leighs Meantime,ha,ha,"Great film by the way"But it hardly opend my young mind to The Vast,Hot American highways.I remember being at Primary school having mass pretend Convoy Fights based on the Slow motion Diner Punch up.Also this film is the Last Penkinpah-ish Film Penkinpah ever made"Drunk or not Drunk","Walter hill films where the nearest we,d get after this,Does anybody remember The Osterman weekend?"Wich was Pekinpah-lite"Convoy is Pekinpah-Super -strengh"All big and Macho".This DVD also has a great Price and Nice Cover Art abit like my Original Video box cover,So if you dont own it and like American Road movies"it should be on your selfs"C"MON!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry - posting this to counter the double post by a critic earlier...
These film can be Cheesy - like most of the movies of the time (they were not so much when they were made, but ideas get repeated so much it unfortunately spoils the originals) but its a classic film... worth the money :)
All time classic

Breaker Breaker, i've gotta ten-four good buddy! Watching the bear in the air, come-on?
Legendary movie. I rate this up there with Wayne Wonder's 'No holding back' song. It wont give you the emotion like a DJ Sammy song but it is a brilliant piece of movie making. In some places it made me 'UUUUUUUUURRRRRRRCCCCC' (sorry something my throat).
If you like the Oceans 14 preview when the team try and break into a holiday makers suitcase in ---BREAK THE SAFE--- then you are sure to like this.
It only leaves me to say 'Are you all ok? Because all im hearing from people is 'I've Forgot, I've Forgot'.
Over and out good buddy!!

In 1969 Sam Peckinpah made "The Wild Bunch", one of the all-time great westerns. He followed that up in 1971 with the harrowing "Straw Dogs" and thereafter gave us the iconic "The Getaway" and the surreal "Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia".
However, by 1978 Peckinpah was so much in the grip of alcoholism and drug addiction that this act of creative prostitution was all he could manage, and even then some of the scenes were reputedly directed by Kristofferson due to Peckinpah being incapable.
There are one or two good stunts, granted, but the kindest thing I can say about this film is that it should be shown as a warning against the dangers of drugs and excessive drinking.
Really watchable

not a great film, but an entertaining film. A film where you can sit with a beer and relax. not even remotely taxing on the grey matter, but funny and easy to watch.
