The eighth wonder of the world!

Thirteen additional minutes of epic adventure, exotic creatures and awesome special effects make the King Kong: Deluxe Extended Edition the definitive version of Peter Jackson's must-see, must-have action adventure epic. Exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpses of Jackson and his crew give fans an unprecedented window into the sweeping cinematic vision that makes the King Kong: Deluxe Extended Edition a spectacular film experience that movie lovers will not want to miss!

It is 1933, and vaudeville actress Ann Darrow (Oscar nominee Naomi Watts) has found herself - like so many other New Yorkers during the Great Depression - without the means to earn a living. Unwilling to compromise and allow herself to sink into a career in burlesque, she considers her limited options while aimlessly wandering the streets of Manhattan. When her hunger drives her to unsuccessfully try to steal an apple from a fruit vendor's stall, she is rescued - literally - by filmmaker and multiple hyphenate Carl Denham (Jack Black).

It seems that the entrepreneur-raconteur-adventurer is no stranger to theft, having that day lifted the only existing print of his most recent and unfinished film from under his studio executives' noses when they threatened to pull his completion funds. Carl has until the end of the day to get his crew onboard the Singapore-bound tramp steamer, the S.S. Venture, in hopes of completing his travelogue/action film. With that, the showman is certain he will finally achieve the personal greatness he knows awaits him around the corner - and although the crew believe that corner to be Singapore, Denham actually hopes to find and capture on film the mysterious place of legend: Skull Island.

Unfortunately for Carl, his headlining actress has pulled out of his project, but his search for a size-four leading lady (the costumes have all been made) has, fatefully, led him to Ann. The struggling actress is reluctant to sign on with Denham, until she learns that the up-and-coming, socially relevant playwright Jack Driscoll (Oscar winner Adrien Brody) is penning the screenplay - the fees his friend Carl pays for potboiling adventure are a welcome supplement to Driscoll's nominal income from his stage plays.

With his newly discovered star and coerced screenwriter reluctantly onboard, Denham's 'moving picture ship' heads out of New York Harbor... and toward a destiny that none aboard could possibly foresee...

 Absolutely brilliant

Why do some people say this is not as good as the origanal, its actually as good if not better. Yes ok the origanal 1933 version was brilliant but in my eyes this is a hell of a lot better, in a lot more ways. For a start they never had special effects like we have now in 1933, its vertually the same story, but the way the film has been made, it seems a lot better, especially the dinosaur fighting that is fantastic and the special effects are amazing. At the end tho on top of the Empire state building the action scenes and yet again the special effects are brilliant. You can actually see in this version where the extra few minutes are added they stand out a mile, i never no why they edit bits out of films it really does annoy me and i bet i aint the only one either. If you are a collector of dvds this is a must for your collection, its brilliant.

 Unnecessary, but still unmissable...

Peter Jackson has always treated the DVD buying public with the attention they deserve. The Lord of the Rings extended editions still remain some of the best DVDs on the market. But has he gone too far with Kong? Yes, and no...Certainly the film was too long already, and though stunningly produced with some of the greatest CGI in recent years and a quite simply masterful portrayal of Kong, it could have done with some pruning. So, the actual extended edition adds nothing to the film, the additional action scenes are impressive but just slow the film down (Remember, the original was only just over an hour and a half) What makes this DVD a must buy, however, is the extras - the original was always somewhat lacking in that department. An enjoyable commentary, deleted scenes (more of them!) and a comprehensive and fascinating look at the making of the film this certainly doesn't smell like the usual 'cash in'
Peter Jackson has certainly come a long way in his film-making career and he deserves the success he has accumulated, but maybe he could make something a little bit shorter next time around...

The best KONG...if I could only open the DVD CASES!

This is without a doubt the definitive Kong movie, rivaling easily the 1933 version, which was one of my favourite films. The asking price is paltry, considering you also get all the documentaries which make the appreciation of the movie that much deeper.

One thing I did not like in this boxed version was those little red tabs inserted into the DVD cases, that made opening the damned boxes so difficult. A small gripe, but hey, I have arthritis, and it was so hard to finally open them up. What the heck were the manufacturers thinking? I was going to knock off a star for that, but then I did a Kong and simply destroyed the cases after removing the covers...I have more empty ones! Silly buggers!

Wow, what a fantastic film. LOTR supremo Peter Jackson has done it again with a remake of the classic King Kong. Basically a gigantic Ape falls in love with an actress in Namoi Watts. Jamie Bell pops up as a crew member, whilst Jack Black steals the show with his classic humour. Adrien Brody plays a good character next to Naomi Watts aswell. Great to see Gollum in the flesh Andy Serkis (who incidentally also plays King Kong as he supplied the movements to be done with CGI). Great box set with loads of extra footage. Similar to LOTR Trilogy Boxset. Great stuff!!

 Extended?

As a big Peter Jackson fan and now King Kong fan I couldn't wait for the film on DVD. When I heard there was an extended edition I grew very excited but was let down when the mere 12 minutes of deleted scenes that had been added.
I was then surprised to see that there was over 40 minutes of deleted scenes on the first disc not added into the movie but standing on their own.

Expecting it to be like the Lord of the Rings extended films with all the deleted scenes added back into the movie I found having these delete scenes on their own made it so much less exciting especially when is says extended on the box and you are expecting the ultimate movie with everything put back in.

Shame but the film is still great and there's a load of extras you'll have never seen before so its worth it just for that but still a little disappointing.
