This classic noir mystery, from the team of Carol Reed and Graham Greene, is regarded to be the best filmwork of both of these extreme talents. The Third Man features Joseph Cotten as Holly Martins, a pulp novelist who has come to post-WWII Vienna with the promise of work from his friend, Harry Lime (Orson Welles). When he finds that Lime has just been killed in a questionable car accident, he decides to remain in the city to investigate his friend's mysterious death.

The Third Man is a masterpiece of melancholia featuring extraordinary writing, acting, and directing, as well as a classic zither score by Anton Karas.
  • 'Shadowing The Third Man' documentary
  • 'Third Man On The Radio': 2 U.S. radio plays
  • 'Composer Anton Kara' featurette

A majestic film. The best Britiish film of all time

A film of monumental proportions possibly only bettered by Citizen Kane made by the genius of Carol Reed and photographed in glorious black and white by Robert Krasker although always associated and rightly so with Orson Welles, who makes his first appearance after 65 minutes of the film have passed, not to mention the great Joseph Cotten and a true ensemble cast.

One not to be missed. A must for all serious film buffs, a true masterpiece. Need I say more

But the music and its juxtposistion with the scenes is one of the elements that makes this film! The familar yet quiotic balance between the normal and the unseen that surrounds our lives. And as for the cinematography and composisition its simplistic yet rich tapestry is genius

 Not Bad!!

I brought this film based on the two reviews i had read and the description of the film. The cover also states it's a british masterpeice. While the film was ok it never really got off the ground for me until the end. The music that accopanies the film for me is part of the reason i didnt feel the suspense i probaly should have. I am a real film buff and appreciate the film is 59 years old but if i had seen it before i would not have added it to my collection.

 Classic British Noir

I adored this movie. The direction, cinematography, music and acting were just great. Orson Welles isn't exactly in the film for long, but he makes a big impact. Shows you really how great of an actor he really was. There's also a nice 90 minute documentary on the second disc which is worth checking out. Give it a watch!
