Although very similar to Ninja, and not as superior, the plot is also similar. Alone Samurai battling against demons in Feudal Japan, though the plot is a little more complicated than Ninja Scroll it is just as violent, with the usual gore of limbs being hacked off. If you are a fan of Manga set in Feudal Japan then this is for you.
If you liked Ninja Scroll, you might like this, however it isnt quite as good. Part of the problem is that some of the storylines are not resolved, leaving the feeling that this was meant to become a series. However I thought this was better than Black Jack by the same director.
