How Swank ended up in this hocus-pocus, mumbo-jumbo calls for an investigation of biblical proportions itself. The Reaping is so badly put together that God should smite down all those responsible and hold a plague in reserve in case the sequel should rear its ugly head.
Hopkins raids every poor Southern bible belt cliche even borrowing Michael Caine's terrible accent from Hurry Sundown and lending it to poor David Morrisey who promptly phones in his performance. Throw into the mix a poor version of the twist from Angel Heart and you have one of the laziest films in recent memory. Terrible.

i saw this at the cinema.
plague of biblical proportions ?
well the answer to that is,well it was a sleepy backwater
town with minimal poulation.
did it verge on being scary ?
i think perhaps as a result of a sudden switch of scene,
once.
it was an allright film, somehow it missed the ability to
cause any real suspense.
' hilary swank ' will be seen in more demanding roles
in the future i'm sure.
if you chose to watch. ' enjoy '

Buy this and reap the enjoyment

I think all these people saying that its rubbish and that the twist was predictable are stupid and lying- there is no way we could have seen the twist coming as we didn't know if the event in question ever really happened. if u luv horrors- listen to me, this is a great film and one of the best ive seen in a long time. Everything about it is great

 Reaps an average mark!

I have to say I do not normally bother with horror since I find it difficult to be 'surprised' by something original.I enjoyed Skeleton Key because of the excellent twist. The Reaping I bought just for Hilary Swank who I find fascinating to watch. Her acting is fine and her co-star too but I never find David Morrissey convincing. If I had seen he was in it I might not have bothered. That said I did enjoy the experience of the film but do not think I could revisit it.Plenty of standard shocks and jumps a la Hollywood Rule book but nothing really memorable - except Hilarys navel maybe!.
