What a film this has action, adventure, romance, fantastic bad guys and a witch what more could you want from one film.
Kevin Costner despite being an American plays the role of Robin Of Locksley (Robin Hood) fantastically maybe the best Robin Hood of all time.Alan Rickman almost steals the show as the excellent Sheriff Of Nottingham with his wicked one liners the supporting cast is great Morgan Freeman and Christian Slater are excellent.
This has to be one of my all time favourite films its great for everyone if you want an action film its got it,If you want a romance film to watch with a special someone this film is it and if you want a superb family film that is great for all to watch this film again does the job.
The film is superbley written, directed and acted it doesent depend on CGI to make it great it just is a must watch film for everyone and a must have for any film collectors collection.
I'm a Robin hood fan and this film is just incredible the way its portrayed. The characters are great, storyline is incredible and the way the film was made was just insanely good.
Great film definitely recommended to other robin hood fans^
My mother absolutely adores Kevin Coster, she has for nearly 20 years now, lol, long time! This is her fave Kevin Costner film, and mine! I think Kevin is brill as Robin, I think he is the best at playing 'The Hood' out of all the actors who hav played the legend, past and present! This film has drama, comedy, action, adventure and a bit of romance all thrown into one! All the cast hav been brilliantly put together and all the extras on this 2 disc set are great!!
It is the best version of the tale of Robin Hood I hav ever seen, or ever likely to see, Top Marks!!
After watching the Ridley Scott / Russell Crowe 2010 version of the myth, I thought there would be no better time to revisit Constner's 1991 version. The first thing that draws your attention is how well the movie hold up after all this time, this is due to the movie's sense of fun, something the 2010 version seems to seriously lack.
From the start we know that this is set out to entertain and not be a accurate account of the time or the geography of England.
Over the years Kevin Costner has come in for allot of stick over his accent in this movie, but to be honest with him not really attempting to put on a English accent this does not destract, not like Russell Crowe accent in his version as no matter how hard he tried to nail it it was all over the place and destacting.
Costner and his 90's mulet hair cut are fine in the movie, even Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio makes a great Marion. with added weight from Morgan Freeman this makes for a star studded outing, but it Alan Rickmen who steals the show as the Sheriff of Nottingham as he plays the part perfect with the correct balance of menace pantomime villiany, with so many brilliant one liners he has to be one of the best bad guys to hit the screen. The film is a great action adventure that reminded me of the exploits of Indianna jones, and with 12 minutes of bonus footage only adds to the movie.
If you want a good laugh watch the second disc for the U.S. TV special, filmed in 1991 for the cinema release of the movie, hosted by a young looking Pierce Brosnan as he try's to get to the bottom of the myth, but manages to hype up the movie, and his over the top narration is dreadfuly funny, and if the producers of the Bond series had seen this prior to Golded Eye his future as the agent would have been in jopardy.
The movie is a brilliant wet bank holiday event that the whole family can enjoy.
It's just a shame it features the Brian Adams song, as it brings back the horrific fact that the song stayed at number one in the UK charts for 16 long weeks.
If you want a more accurate reflection of medievil time watch the 2010 version, but if you want a thrilling action adventure this movie is the version to watch.
This is stil the best Robin Hood movie to hit the big screen.
Cant believe i am the first to write about this movie! where is everyone? this movie is one of those seemingly perfect movies where everything fits...well perfectly, Kevin Costner may puzzle some at first but i can assure you he works as well as everything else here, just turn a blind eye to his american accent and arguable mullet haircut and it'll all run smoothly, with no mean feat from the production values and supporting cast, in places it actually makes for pretty gritty viewing and damn close authenticity. If that doesnt grab you then the action, the love story that actually isnt too dominating or sugary, the villain Alan Rickman in probably his best role, fresh from his equally brilliant turn in Die Hard will steal the show. The historical aspect of Jerusalem gives a real sense of time and period, a little comedy, note a brilliant Friar Tuck and one of the coolest sidekicks, if you could call him that, in the form of Morgan Freemans Azim. Also add one witch, Sherwood forest and some great woodsmen characters and you have seriously great stuff. Again for me it has a lot of memories attached to it, i was 5 when this came out and all i wanted after watching this was a sword and a bow and arrow, of course i got what i wanted when we went on holiday to center Parcs(Sherwood forest) its every little boys dream to be that kind of hero but im sure the adults will empathise as well. Overall here is a movie that will hit the spot every time you watch it.
