All of these Ealing Studios Collection Boxsets are simply Majestic Stuff !! .... And although there are no extras available to speak of, I really must nevertheless compliment 'Optimum Releasing' on the Layout and Very Obviously caring way these boxsets are put together. 'I Say Chaps, Jolly good show !! ' Anyway this particular one : Volume Two, comprises four grand films to come out of the studio from 1946 -1952. They are all first class jobs, although my personal favourites, are 'Dead Of Night' an excellent 'Portmanteau' collection of Creepy Ghost stories that even after all these years, are still pretty chilling, with the exception of one which is thrown in for a bit of comic relief and is quite funny !! .... & 'Hue and Cry' which is often cited as being the first of the true classic 'Ealing Comedies' .This dates from 1947 and has great location photography of a recently war torn and bomb ravaged London, especially around Wapping and the London and Thames Docks area. It's a great film for young and old alike !! The other two are, of course classics in their own right, 'The Lavender Hill Mob' needs no introduction !! and 'The Titfield Thunderbolt' is a gentle comedy in the best tradition of our great heritage of 'Classic British Comedies' from that golden era of British film making from after the 2nd world war up until the end of the sixties. There is such an incredible array of talent on offer within these movies that the list is almost endless - Alec Guinness, Alastair Sim, Stanley Holloway, Michael Redgrave, Sid James - it goes on & on !! .... We should be really proud that we used to knock films out like this, without any trouble at all .... all those years ago .... This is a 5 star rating .... without even trying !!
